I went with La Mascera Di Cera. Man it's been a long time since I spun The Flower Kings. At least the Italians used a real mellotron.

will have to come back to SC3.. what a wild ride that was before I got thrown off.  Stylistically... all over the f**king map.  I couldn't stay in the saddle and post here, talk to Raff, and follow a baseball game at teh same time.

I'll come to it later tonight. When the party here at the Pallazo di Prog has broken up for the night and I can fully concentrate on it. That wackiness?  Either that is going to be a very good thing.. or a bad thing. Definitely not a generic or dull album.

funny you say that Austin... just coming back over to check in and giving the album another try.. it was a wild stylistic ride and it threw me earlier... it needed my full attention to follow where the album was going. Either it will be very good .. or very bad IMO.

well i'll be damned ...that explains a lot...

'Their studio recordings and tours have featured different line-ups, as the group performs a wide range of musical styles, mostly instrumental, including https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surf_rock" rel="nofollow - surf rock , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_traditional_music" rel="nofollow - Persian , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_music" rel="nofollow - Arab , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_India" rel="nofollow - Indian , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_metal" rel="nofollow - death metal , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_music" rel="nofollow - film music , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_music" rel="nofollow - electronic music , and various others.'

the sh*tter of it is...  I don't know if this work... I don't know if it matters.. I don't really care if it works.

Yes there is a concept.. one way over my head as it is based on something by someone I've never heard of.

I gotta give it the vote...  creative and unique (at least to me in style) as I've ever heard.

IS THIS REALLY WHAT I'M HEARING. THIS NOW SOUNDS LIKE A THEME FROM A WESTERN

hahahha..  this puts the zap on my head for sure...

at least this is art.. unlike Disco Volante..  idiots like me can appreciate..  giving it the vote

likely yet another  we'll end up getting all albums from... damn ...I have to say it. I'm glad we did this Ian. It did get me off my ass to explore all this stuff. Good times man.. almost will be sort of sorry to see this end haha. Then it will be back to kicking Camel-Fan, Dull-fan, SWilson, and of course our favorite Bobbleheads around the forum again.

Boring... but still... sort of satisfying...in a perverse way...

In years past this would have been a no brainer for "Unfold the Future" but I just can't do it.  I've lost interest in The Flower Kings over the past few years and have really moved on.

With that being said, "Contagion" gets my vote.  Contagion is a huge album for me, it's the album that in my mind marks the difference between old school Neo which, truth be told, isn't my favorite type of music, and modern Neo.  It combines a lot of elements from symphonic but is not constrained by trying to sound symphionic using technology rather than using traditional instruments as a crutch.  There is no Mellotron here, no full blown orchestra, I can't think of any 12-string guitars on it.  Pure dark and brooding kick you in the face rock with great musicianship.  Say what you will, this is one of my all time favorite albums.  (yes, there were a few of my favorites in this series of polls)

Oh i actually didn't know that. Never looked at the line-ups. I just always remember hearing about the affiliation he had with this band.

I really like some older Flower Kings stuff but in this poll I find them disappointing.

As for Contagion and neo: for me it is a bit the opposite, meaning that, in general, I very much like the old neo instead of the new. But Contagion sounds good! Now, I am quite a Clive Nolan admirer, I must say.

As for the others: SC3 sound fascinating, different songs also having different things to offer, but they won't get my vote.

My vote goes to the Italians of Maschera Di Cera. Sounds like a classic album made in modern times. Great voice, great instrumentation, great music!

^ excellent choice.  It had my vote until stolen by SC3 for shear creativity..and WTF'ness.  I did just get a partial listen to the one we did have from them. Book M and seemed as equally impressive.

If fact since I'm on track to finish all 16 polls by Friday.. I'm taking a break today and I'm giving this Kayo Dot album another spin then giving Book M a complete uninterupted spin.

Yes, I understand you need a break.
Trying myself to vote for all the polls on Friday as well.
BTW keeping track of all my votes, trying to find out which subgenres get the most votes by me.
Maybe interesting for others too, planning to post something about it in the Musical Madness thread at the end of the week.

Well MDC was very good, like that a lot, if I was more a fan of the Italian stuff it'd have a chance. TFK's & Arena really do nothing for me at all.

SC3 all the way baby.

whoa...  Book M. That album just became part of my regular album rotation. Listened to that multiple times yesterday evening.  Very highly rated I see, interesting it wasn't the choice for the polls.  Perhaps it wasn't as stylistically wild and diverse as the  Book of Horizons... but man oh man..  where it comes up short in WTF'ness.. . it hits home completely in execution.  By far my #1 discovery of the moderns.. and we even had this album sitting in the wall of music...I had never listened to it,  but as I say.. music is infinite.. time is not.
