 This is hard. I vote for the Velvet Underground to make it a tie (and because I support the inclusion of VU in PA - they are the inventors of Art Rock after all).

I do not own any albums by VU but even with the spoken word style of vocals The Murder Mystery has some continuity in the music. Revolution 9 is total nonsense and a waste of space on the album. I wouldn't vote for it if it was running against itself. |

Speaking of Pink Floyd, didn't Syd Barrett try something similar to "The Murder Mystery" with his "Word Song"? Of course, assuming it was deliberate, I don't think Syd's attempt was as successful as the Velvets. Back on topic, as for the Beatles at the their most avant-garde and the last gasp of the Velvets in the realm of avant-garde, probably the Beatles, if only for John's ramblings. ------------- He looks at this world and wants it all... so he strikes, like Thunderball! |
