| There is an error in the introductory page to the Progressive Electronic subgenre. Wendy Carlos is incorrectly named and misrepresented. She was one of the first composers of electronic music in history, and in order to properly credit her I sincerely request that the administrators of progarchives correct this error. Thank you. |

Split the difference as many have done Walter / Wendy, although to be honest she is now Wendy so that should be the listing. The albums attributed to her can be listed as Walter if desired. ------------- Thank you for supporting independently produced music |

She isn't included on PA (and rightfully so imo). She is just mentioned in the http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=33" rel="nofollow - prog electronic genre description. I understand where you're coming from, and the things you mention are also why both of them are included in the sub genre description. The thing is this site is about progressive rock not about progressive music per se. The only reason the prog electronic genre has any place on here is because of it's ties to Krautrock. Both of them were pretty much inseperable during the 70s. That is also the reason why 90% of what gets included in electronic can trace it's lineage straight back to the early German scene. Sure we also got a lot of other artists from different nations under our belt, but they either show influences from the German scene or incorporated some kind of progressive rock instrumentation into the mix. If we were to include everything progressive electronic we'd end up with a sub twice the size of all the others combined. We would have to include trance, dub step, modern classical (like Tomita and Wendy), glitch, IDM and the list literally goes on and on. If the music doesn't have that sonic linkage to prog (or Krautrock/old school electronic), then it doesn't get included. Not because of it's lack of "progressiveness" (sic), but simply because it doesn't fit in with the scope of the genre. Truth be told, I find a lot of electronic artists out there, who aren't included on PA, to be far more progressive than most of what is here under progressive electronic.....but I can see why it doesn't belong. By that logic the entire genre of Crossover should be removed. I mean com'on, Supertramp?? It's pop. And what about The Police, surely they desire a listing, sure you can argue Ska, Reggae or some such thing, but Syncronicity is very progressive, and there is more than one band on this site who may have had only one really progressive album and some who have squandered or abandoned their progressive leanings all together...but, whatever. I am wondering if Wendy (Walter) Carlos ever thought of making an album with ex-Tull keyboardist and arranger Dee (David) Palmer. 1986 If you haven't heard this album it is a masterpiece of Progressive Electronic and by itself warrants her inclusion. The other album Digital Moonscapes was a good concept but the music is boring. |
