An easy, although slighlty patriotic, vote for Elephant9. Prefer their debut to Walk the Nile, but Unfolded Like Staircase did nothing for me, so...

^ as much as I love Discipline.. this wouldn't have been the album I'd have picked.  To Shatter All Accord is a top 20 modern fav and would have got the vote.. but this is the one fans love and wanted for the contest ... so I went with it.

Likely to... ah f**k it.. I loved that elephant9 album.. no need to sit on this one.

Btw, Micky, that Elephant9 track in the OP is from their debut, not WtN.

Love both but Elephant 9 takes it away.

Maybe Elephant9 can pull off the upset.

Yes yes yes!!! This is my fave tune of theirs.
My vote also went their way even if I really dig that Discipline album. I think I overdosed on it a couple of years ago. The only one I return to is 'Into the Dream'.

My favourite's "I Cover the Mountain Top", off their debut, but, yeah, that one's high up on my list of Elephant9 tracks as well.

Unfolded Like Staircase (1997) - Discipline

No doubt

I'll probably surprise a couple people here - but i voted Discipline. It's is actually one of the few Symph records i like. Canto (In Limbo) is fantastic really.

Elephant 9 i loveeee, but i prefer Walk the Nile more so i decided to go with the minority here.

E9 but not with an awful lot of enthusiasm.

The second round is interesting in that now we are often being asked to vote for albums we may well have voted against in the preliminaries. Me, I cannot remember whether I voted for either of these back then but I am guessing not.

Like Discipline a lot, on of the few modern Symph bands I connect with but elephant9 are a wonderfully heavy jazz fusion monster, love this album.

yep... though I likely would have voted for the To Shatter All Accord album over the E9 album.  This album though good, wasn't great IMO like that one was.

I didn't know elephant9 and after listening to the samples just confirmed that my vote goes to Discipline. Great album! Now we have a tie.

Oh dear, while I write this, the bands are not only tying in the poll, but also in my own preference.
Hardest poll in this round of the modern polls.
Um...
Okay, first of all: applause for both bands.
Having said that, or rather, having clapped that, I'll choose... Hear me out....
No doubt Elephant 9 is cutting edge innovating. It's happening, so to say...
At this moment, though, I choose Discipline. It is more enjoyable now... Better balance between adventure and beauty.
But, if I'm in a more adventurous mood, no doubt I would have chosen for the Elephant.
Discipline wins, but only just... just....

Both great albums, and it's hard to have to chose one over the other. However, this time I'll go with Discipline, though I like To Shatter All Accord even better than Unfolded.
