I love the whole album and I was about to vote for the Wright's beautiful Bridges Burning. Free Four is the prequel to The Dark Side Of the Moon in terms of lyrics, and Wot's... Uh the Deal? is great to play with an acoustic guitar. Obscured by Clouds is a great intro to the album....but my vote goes to Stay. The guitar work with that wah-wah...yes, it's mainly a pop song but I like it so much...

I like the two opening tracks, record was to weak for my collection. I have only permitted myself to have 300 vinyls.

I'd vote for a number of tracks if this a was a multiple-vote poll. So far I don't see a vote for "Burning Bridges" and "Wot's ... Uh The Deal", so I'll wait and see which of these two will need a vote.

Mine too! I'm going for Childhood's End, but I could vote for any of them really.

It doesn't seem to be a very popular opinion, but my favourite here is Mudmen. I really love the guitar on that one.

Mudmen is my pick of the bunch. Such a great album I've had since 1987, loved it for a while, forgot about it for years, and love now more than ever !

Under appreciated PF album. Went with Mudmen although it could have been Burning Bridges, Wots Uh the Deal, Childhoods End or Stay. Lots of Wright on this album. Big fan of it

This is one of the few Pink Floyd albums I still haven't gotten yet.
BTW, you made a little typo in the album's title in the thread's title.

I find it odd that "Dark Side of the Moon","Wish You Were Here" and "Animals" are regarded as the unbroken string of three great albums, as I always thought "Obscured By Clouds" was the start of that chain? Even though it was recorded in less time than what they later had, it's got a wonderful group dynamic to it. More than one writer for a start!

I would rather think Meddle is the one that started that chain... even if it's not as great as the other 3... but it's got Echoes, which for me is the first Floyd song of the new sound (well, that and One of this Days). But Obscured by clouds sort of breaks the chain for me... it is a nice listen and all, but it just isn't in the same category.

But then Atom should be in the chain too. Title track is great, the rest minus If is all good IMO.

100% Agree. I pick "Mudmen" . I love "Free Four" so much too. Very different sound and style plus Dark lyrics.

Well I mean that I think the second side of Atom Heart Mother consists of good songs, only the song "If" is IMO not that good.

And I'd say that it's an unjustifiably over-looked opus in the Floydian canon.
Voted for Absolutely Curtains, simply because it has one of the greatest titles, and that wonderful ending with the voices of the Mapuga tribe.

Yeah, AHM is great indeed, specially the title track. But it still sounds too much like early Pink Floyd, not "mature" Pink Floyd (just to give a name to the periods). Though the guitar parts on the title track (and Fat Old Sun too, I guess) do point in the direction the band would take. I still think that Echoes (and One of this Days) is the first song to feature the trade-mark Floyd sound of that "mature" period of the band.

Ah, I didn't like it at first, but "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" is quite charming. I think AHM deserves a thread of it's own!

I used to dislike... or rather dismiss Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, but last time I put the whole album, it was actually rather nice. I guess if it was only the music without the cooking breakfast sounds it would be more cohesive and enjoyable for me.

I really love the full band of "Morning Glory" from that section as well. Especially when the guitar solo comes in near the end. It's basically the last "Old Floyd" kiss off to the 60's as it was all change from here on in.
"Obscured By Clouds", a dress rehearsal for "Dark Side of the Moon" or just the sound of them working stuff out?

Their 2nd best album behind Animals. Dark side isn't very good to me
------------- All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.
