Cross-Eyed Mary

From the list I'd pick Cross Eyed Mary, even though it's the third best track on Aqualung (after Aqualung and Locomotive Breath).

But my favourite 70s Tull track is Moths.

Considered voting 'Jack-in-the-Green' but that damn Mary gets me every time.  Dirty girl.

From this list......Skating Away......by a long way ....a unique song....I do not tire of it.

Amazing melody, amazing musicianship and Ian's vocals are at their peak.

Surprised I'm the first for "Baker St. Muse..." I think it's their finest Prog moment.

Going down the list, I thought I was going to have a tough time choosing (maybe even abstain), until X-eyed Mary showed up >> no brainer in this list.

A lot of great songs and a difficult choice. But it has to be Heavy horses - everytime I hear it it moves me almost to tears (well, not exactly but in some way :-) ) There was melancholy about vanishing old world in it even more than 35 years ago...

Mean while back in the year... one...?

Seriously, I listen to Skatin Away at least one time everyday. There is no lyrics that speaks to me so as this one (perhaps Wondring Again and Just Trying to Be came close).

Simply put:
'cause you were bread to humanity
and sold to society

And I just love the "concept" of your life confusing with something you're seeing and that thing stage/audience (I Just wake up and cannot put exaclty in words... perhaps before another cup of coffe).

Hard to choose between "Skating Away" and "Only Solitaire", both of which I find delightful, but in the end "Skating Away" took the prize!

In second and third position: "Back Door Angels" and "Cold Wind to Valhalla" - probably Martin Barre and Barrie Barlow's finest ever moments!

Tough choice - went with "Skating Away..." for no other particular reason than I like it...

Would've gone for Velvet Green, but, there are so many other top tunes in this list it is impossible to vote. I'm leaning towards Dark Ages somewhat though.

"cross eyed mary" - a perfect hard rock song, and there aren't many

I'm a bit surprised that Crosseyed Mary got so many votes.....compared to some of the  other tracks on the list.
IMHo there are better 'hard rock' tracks on Stand Up and Benefit.

hmm, I don't know "Stand Up".  Nothing on Benefit is on this list is it?  If it were, I might go with  "With you there to help me" , or maybe "To Cry You a Song" - yeah in fact the latter is like the precursor to Cross Eyed Mary.  "Nothing to Say" is practically a ballad, as are "Teacher" and "Sossity" and even "Inside" and "For Michael Collins...".  Have I left any out?  Embarrassed

I wouldn't call Nothing To Say a 'ballad' nor Teacher.....and there are several very good songs on Stand Up that have a blues rock edge to them with some hard rock overtones for sure.
Crosseyed might be a bit rougher but it's not that great of a song imho.
