I am not absolutely sure that this hasn't been discussed before but in my opinion I believe ELO is prog, or has a lot of prog-ish elements in a lot of the songs that I've heard from them (The album Eldorado and some other songs.). | From the samples I've heard that you sent me, they seem to be a Fusion Jazz band, but however when I downloaded more samples of them and listened to them, they didn't seem to be very Progressive at all. Sure, Fusion jazz Rock is a "subgenre" of progressive ROck, but however ELO can not be included in here. |

ELO is absolutely prog and should be listed on this site. Especially early ELO!

yeah, I agree that the first two ELO albums could be considered to have prog elements to them, but then what do you do with the rest of their catalogue, which is Art Pop/Rock? in that sense, they fall into the 'Moody Blues' category, whose first couple of albums could be categorised in the same way... ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. I have to agree with the previous post with 'MuzikMan' in that the first few albums of theirs were truly 'progressive'. I actually thought that 'New World Record' and 'Out of the Blue' were Arena-Rock albums and had very little prog about them, only Richard Tandy's arsenal of keyboards were the main link with prog. Way too commercial, and an album such as 'Discovery' could have actually been called 'Very Disco' . The album 'Time' is enjoyable, but it's 4/4 dance beats almost throughout leaves a lot to be desired. Their second release, 'ELO II' floors me every time !! The New Zealand ensemble Split Enz had a similar career, but something like 'True Colours' was pure pop. I digress....
