The two iconic and influential former bassists for KC that went on to have significant success after leaving the band. Who do you prefer, Greg Lake or John Wetton?

Love the typo in the topic heading - a subtle attempt to influence the voting perhaps?

Works for me! Tongue

But I choose Lake since I prefer his out of Crimson career to Wetton's out of KC career, even though Wetton's is more diverse. In KC I consider them about equal for what unique goodness they brought to different forms of the band.

Lake really hasn't done much other than ELP where Wetton has been much more involved in prog.  What's really cool about the two is that they both do bass and vocals quite well. Big smile

It's very nearly a tie, but Wetton sang a great song with Uriah Heep, and there's a little album I love called Danger Money. Oh, yeah: Crimson. So that's that. Smile

Where's the neither option?

As a singer, as a bassist, or as a songwriter? As a singer, Lake by a mile, I don't really like Wetton's voice, specially with King Crimson (and UK), though his singing on Asia (studio) is OK (live it's not really enjoyable, either), while Greg Lake has some of my favourite vocal moments in rock (yet he doesn't really sing so beautifully always). As a bassist, John Wetton takes my choice. And as a songwriter... I don't really know, I would need to know exactly who wrote what.

Hey Steve. Very good poll. I pick Greg Lake. The number of great albums that Wetton has participated in  more than Lake but I vote to my hero Greg Lake.

Starting off this blew my mind. I can't give one the edge over the other from the standpoint of vocals. Wetton, though, proved himself on base with KC when they were doing the majority of their sets from improv. So, I have to give him an edge on brilliance there.
