Days of Future Past, an album that literally defined pastoral in rock. Of the ones in the poll, definitely Harmonium.

I would not call any of these albums "pastoral".

All great albums, went for Harmonium, which is the only one I consider pastoral of these. If I'm going for pastoral I typically reach for Mike Oldfield, Ommadawn or Hergest Ridge.

Harmonium with no doubt. The Geese and the Ghost is a great album though

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Harmonium easily.

Another more or less pastoral recommendation, from recent years: Camelias Garden's You Have a Chance.

A very, very hard list to choose from. I will go with Anthony Phillips, but all are quite excellent.

Nowadays I'am coming back more on Anthony Philips than the others albums putted in the list...

Gryphon is a masterpiece , more medieval than pastoral , though!

Trespass just over the Geese and the Ghost.

The best pastoral album is Avait but my personal favourite is Trespass.

Came looking for Trespass, and was not disappointed Tongue That said, Si On Avait and The Geese And The Ghost are both undoubtedly 5-stars, even though I've seriously overplayed them both. Also my favourite Gryphon album by a fair margin, but I think I've only heard the whole thing once through so I definitely need to revisit it.

Does pastoral mean it has to be about the wood, trees ,and the countryside...?
I like Trespass above but some of these give me that pastoral feel also....

Fantasy
Cressida
Strawbs (any of the early ones but I like hero and heroine)
Moody Blues-On The Threshold...
BJH-Once Again

I can't say that "Red Queen.." is pastoral in any way, shape or form
of these, Harmonium and maybe Ant Philips would be the most pastoral for me, but not a big fan of either so abstaining

I love Ant more than any artist, Harmonium's amazing, Trespass was never my favorite, but Red Queen is the one-and-only, the creme-de-la-crop. A masterpiece of masterpieces. Easy pick!

Gryphon ~ Red Queen to Gryphon three is very gud.
Don't know Anthony Philips ~ The Geese and The Ghost & Harmonium ~ blah! blah! blah!
Doesn't matter though, cause Trespass is so good. Genesis' first masterpiece.

In this case, I think evocative of the rural/countryside (which rules out 'The Knife', etc.)

I definitely prefer Trespass on this poll. Very underrated compared to Genesis' other prog albums.

Though I like all these albums, Trespass is my favourite, though only a part of it evokes a "pastoral" mood, while "The Geese and the Ghost" has a pastoral atmosphere throughout the album.

Good question........it's a matter of opinion as always but here's an actual explanation of pastoral

Since Atom Heart Mother had a cow on the cover, as someone said above,  that must be pastoral.

Yeah, this song would seem pastoral enough indeed, as well as parts of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, and perhaps even "If"... but not the title track at all.

Indeed. Trespass is nice and all. Actually, every single song is very enjoyable... but it sort of lacks some higher peaks... The Knife should be the high point of the album (and it's the one that's not pastoral at all). Harmonium's album is just wonderful, and "Histoires Sans Paroles" is for me one of the best prog pieces ever... perhaps overall my very favourite instrumental prog song.
