New here, looked friendly enough so I thought I would create an account on the forums!

Examples of this weird type of music:

10cc
Sparks
A Trick of the Tail
Little known band called Stackridge that I've been a fan of for years
Queen
Split Enz

Hi amd welcome to PA! We're often very friendly indeed
Could you please clarify what you're exactly asking? Are you looking for prog bands/albums similar to those you mentioned?

There's a certain Vaudevillian atmosphere to Frank Zappa albums (Apostrophe for instance), but getting away from Americana, how about Strawbs' Ghosts?

If you're looking for something "music hall" related with a unique flavor, you just have to try French "chanson" prog...these are the cream of the crop:

Ange:
 Caricatures - 1973
Le Cimitiere des Arlequins - 1974
Au Dela Du Delire - 1974
 Emile Jacotey - 1975
Par le Fils de Mandrin - 1976
 Guet Apens - 1978

Mona Lisa:
 L'escapade - 1974
 Grimaces - 1975
Le Petit Violon de Monsieur Gregoire - 1977
Avant Qu'll ne Soit Trop Tard - 1978

^ Good call, can't believe I didn't think of those myself (maybe cause I had a stroke in December).

Almost forgot...if you'd like your "music hall" to be very dark and a cross between vaudeville and a black and white horror film another option would be Devil Doll Clown

Quartermass!  Haven't seen that LP in yonks!

Peter Gabriel's "Excuse Me"

The Kinks were my favorite for incorporating dance hall, but they're not very proggy at all.

Well...I'm not sure what the OP means since none of those mentioned above sound like 'music hall'
music to me.

I'm trying to understand that description "music hall prog" based on the bands set out as examples. There's a lot of the Sparks that I've really enjoyed. 10cc is alright, but I'm not sure if Trick of the tail is a Band or the Genesis album. Perhaps this refers to the type of venues they were playing at a point in time.

^music hall as in vaudeville, cabaret, etc. Basically involving a lot of theatrics.
