After a few fruitless visits to the local HMV/record shops (such as they are these days), I'm frustrated as to where to buy actual cd's for decent bands. The only alternative I can think of is Amazon, but I find them exploitative and often quite expensive. As someone living in the UK, does anyone know of any local (ie not international) outlets for prog to order from? Thanks.

I normally find Dodax pretty cheap. I believe they are a German company but ship from the UK as well. They sell on Amazon too but you can normally save a bit more if you buy direct from their website. Only downside is that they are slow on delivery - usually 2 - 3 weeks.

I generally use the following for prog stuff:

http://www.caerllysimusic.co.uk - based in Wales
http://www.progrock.co.uk - based in Leicestershire

I've never had any problems buying from these two sources and there prices are reasonable.

I've used Will at caerllysimusic quite a few times. He's a big prog fan and the service is great. Other than that, check if the band you want sells direct via their website.

Thanks, the latter link seems pretty comprehensive. What kind of turnaround time?

As chopper says, Will is a proghead and prides himself on good service.

The folks at progrock.co.uk also give good service and communication is good.

Both of them will general have your order delivered within a week. As I say, their communication is good and they are both happy to address any questions you have.

You won't go wrong with Ultima Thule, especially if your interests run to Krautrock:

Also used to use www.missingpiece.net but that now seems to have gone and the domain name taken - anyone know what happened?

Hello to everyone.
I am facing problems with progrock.co.uk website
I have made an order 3 weeks ago, they have confirmed the order but then they seem to be disappeared.
It is the first time I have problems with them, but I am worried because I don't receive any reply to my messages.
Can someone of you help me?
Do you know if progrock.co.uk has troubles?
Thank you
Greetings from Italy

^ Wayside is great but the OP was looking for UK-based sellers. Shipping from the US to the UK is really expensive now, so personally I only order from Steve or other US sellers if I can save up a big order to spread the cost. Which is a damn shame.
