Klaus-Peter Matziol is Eloy's bass man and my favourite Eloy member. His style of bass playing is absolutely unique, strong and driving, and Eloy wouldn't be what they are without him.
Anyway, what I'd like to ask: Matziol has the odd solo album, but I never got hold of one. Does anybody here know any of these? How are they?

I agree, KPM is one of my favorite bass players.

Matze appears to be his one solo, released on vinyl in '83.

I've never heard it, but I've read somewhere that his solo sounds not far from Codename : Wildgeese, the Eloy soundtrack to the film with the deranged Klaus Kinski. Which is a patchy affair (I think Matze handled the few vocals on it..) ?

Dunno "Wildgeese" either and thought from reviews that I probably shouldn't try too hard. Will try to get hold of Matze though. The German Wikipedia page

lists a few more things in which he had his hand, i.e., Shade and Echo Park (which is listed as solo project with a guest singer). I don't know any of these either.

I haven't heard anything from Matziol's solo career, but he was the biggest reason for me opening up to Eloy. I've always mildly enjoyed Eloy but at the same time had big problems with Frank's tainted english. He still makes me chuggle...
But nowadays I find myself zoning in on the bass playing and how it interacts with the surrounding instruments. I particularly adore the way it interconnects the synth melodies on Colours, Planets and Time To Turn.
Outstanding bass player with a sound completely unique to himself.

Matze is a great bassplayer (did a lot, a LOT of sessionwork in the eighties and nineties) but not such a good songwriter.
He was better of playing with Eloy, where he belongs :D

On the basis this might become a 'tribute' thread then for me he is one of the best. Time To Turn is just magnificent as is most of his Eloy bass work. Only Geddy and Chris come (came) any where close in my estimation.
