Nice.

I do hope it's a step up from AGIN, but being a hopeless fanboy it's essentially an autobuy for me.

Guy and Hugh present for the vinyl cut of "Do Not Disturb" at Abbey Road Studios yesterday. Released on September 30th, "Do Not Disturb" will be put out as a double vinyl album, and a single CD.

^ I'm generally not a fan of these album covers where  the band stands around in an (pseudo)arty location, but I like this one.

So, does it mean that we have to expect 3 months of promotion before the release? Is there any tour planned (except for Hammill's solo dates in november)?

Absolutely not. Appalled at the suggestion...

Meanwhile, here's another photo of Hugh and Guy at Abbey Road Studios during the vinyl cut of "Do Not Disturb," the new VdGG album/CD released on September 30th!!!!

Don't worry, it was more a bad taste joke than a suggestion. After all, the album is called Do Not Disturb: I guess that the band won't go out before september.

Yeah, that's a misprint that they'll hopefully sort out before they print the booklets up!

Dunno, but I was thinking the same thing. At any rate, Cherry Red is taking pre-orders at http://www.cherryred.co.uk/do-not-disturb-cherry-red-records-and-esoteric-antenna-are-delighted-to-announce-the-release-of-the-excellent-new-album-by-the-legendary-van-der-graaf-generator/

(That's a heck of a long link, ain't it)

Hey, for what it's worth, I bought the vinyl of Alt, and though it's missing some tracks from the whole, it works perfectly. And whilst it wasn't received incredibly well, it brought to my mind, that wonderful 70's spirit of releasing something spontaneous, which shows a kind of 'inner workings' or 'behind the scene' angle of the band. Maybe a slightly risky proposition in this day and age, but kudos to the guys for having the balls to go with it.
I still miss Jaxon's sax though. And, of course, dear Nic and his monstrous bass.

I don't have anything in front of me, but they feel like they're around the seven / eight minute mark.

Btw, here's another review, this time from The Quietus:

The Highly Strung madness (AGiN) was a very welcome surprise and it looks like K is doing another appearance here.

Nice, very nice.

Here is a link to Peter Hammill's interview on BBC 6 the other night (edited down to just his 12 minutes or so... you don't have to listen to the whole 2 hour program! ;-) ). It also includes another track from the forthcoming album.

Turns out it's a winner. I think the band really put a lot of thought into this.
I haven't heard anything as good as Almost The Words since their classic phase. Awesome album.

I have heard it a few times and currently impressed. Bearing in mind though that I'm not exactly up on VDGG this does sound and feel like something that could have been properly recorded in the seventies. I'm guessing they've made very few concessions to modern technology. If so then good on them for that.Thumbs Up
