This is so hard, as this album has special personal meaning for me. I'm going to have to stew on this a bit. It's between Russia On Ice, Hatesong, Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth, Shesmovedon and How Is Your Life Today. Anyone have a dart and a blindfold? ------------- PROGMATIC |

`Russia on Ice' is a knockout, but my personal favourite has always been `Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth...'. It has that wonderful warm acoustic first half, then drifts into dreamy space with the second half over the message from the Heaven's Gate cult leader. Eerie stuff! Years ago right as the album came out, I wrote to Steven Wilson asking what the connection between the two parts of the song was, thinking there was some link that I was missing. I got a nice letter back from him (this was before Porcupine Tree exploded in popularity, so I guess he had a bit more time back then!  ), and he simply replied `Actually, there is no connection, I just thought they sounded cool together'.....  which I thought was both quite amusing and hugely disappointing!What a great album, a stack of PT's best poppier moments on that one, (although the exception `Feel So Low' I don't expect to see many votes for!  ).

| I haven't heard it all (actually I haven't heard it, except for the tracks that appear on the live "Warzawa" album), but I really love "Russia on Ice". Actually, my favourite PT tracks are "Radioactive Toy", "The Sky moves Sideways" (from Coma Divine), and "Russia on Ice" (from Warzawa). They make a wonderful trio of songs for me that beat anything they did since Gavin Harrison joined the band. |

I pretty much like everything Steve Wislon touches...to some degree (maybe apart from Blackfield). It is a difficult choice between Shesmovedon and Russia on Ice but the latter edges it due to Chris Maitland's rrrrumbling kathartic drum work at the very end.
