My favorite era of Floyd is the Atom Heart Mother - Meddle era and I've been playing my guitar and learning some of the solos on these albums, but I just can't achieve Gilmours sound with only a Wah pedal.
Does anyone have any tips of pedals of other gear I should get to achieve the sound on these albums. The song I'm mainly focusing on is Echoes.

I use distortion, analogue delay, chorus, vibrato and compressor. The last three mostly on later music though.

I'm thinking amp--  Gilmour like Fenders but later he also favored Mesa-Boogie, Seymour Duncan.  Pedals are fine but tone starts with the amp.   Gilmour knew what he wanted: dense, round, large, brown but blue, and later quite foamy (Meddle, The Wall).   You might also look into a vintage fuzz box (MXR Distortion+, RAT, etc.) but there's no substitute for a kick-ass head and speaker (or even a studio amp).   G-K used to be good too, and Carvin, but Gilmour had a warmer sound than those brands.   Look for a used amp with tubes even.

I'm curious as to how David achieved those shrill feed-back cries in Echoes ;and live Embryo, Is There Anybody Out There...). I've read somewhere he reversed the input / output flow of the Wah pedal but not sure ??

There is a website called http://www.gilmourish.com/" rel="nofollow - gilmourish.com dealing with everything connected David's gear. The guy who runs it is a Floyd fanatic and he has full guides to every era.

I have a pretty good idea how Gilmour achieved most of the guitar sounds from that era - but the main ingredient is his mind and fingers.
He wasn't trying to imitate anyone else, and that is a major factor.
People think that just having the right gear makes you sound like so and so - NOT SO!
In my opinion, everyone should be attempting so sound as much like themselves as possible.
