Pink Floyd are undoubtedly the Godfathers of Prog. The quality of their music and instrumentation in my opinion is unsurpassable. Alas, they are no more due to the tragic loss of Richard Wright a few years ago. David Gilmour is still the amazing guitarist as ever, as witnessed at the '15 & '16 Royal Albert Hall gigs.

So, the question is, which groups are going to continue in the same style, ie. glorious keyboard orientated melodies and songs with mesmerizing guitar interplay and lots of instrumental passages.   Early Porcupine Tree and RPWL were big contenders. But nowadays I would strongly recommend a Norwegian group called Airbag. Start with their 1st album 'Identity' and work your way forward from there. I guarantee you will love them. I discovered a Swiss group about 7-8 years ago called Metamorphosis and I was amazed at the strong Floyd influence. Excellent stuff. Anyone else got any undiscovered gems?
Cheers. Barry L.

There's coming some interesting stuff from Scandinavia that seems most of all to be inspired by Pink Floyd. For example the young band http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5364" rel="nofollow - Porcelain Moon .

Eloy (particularly late 70's and possibly a bit beyond)
RPWL (they even started out as a Floyd tribute band)
Porcupine Tree (mainly just their earlier 90's albums that are reminiscent of early Floyd)

Also, probably just about any slow ambient sounding band especially those with Gilmoresque guitar.

If we said bands who sound like PF or are similiar there are a few others I might add like Nektar(who were more or less contemporaneous with PF).

Aperco - The Battle

This came out early this year and is very strong in Camel/Pink Floyd influences.. Highly recommended album.

Interesting choices.  Yes Eris Pluvia is sounding more like Floyd all the time, unfortunately IMO.  Poor Genetic Material has a wide range of influences and the more ambient side of Floyd is heard on their latest rather good album "Absence"

My guess is that they are like Eloy in the sense that they may have been influenced by them but it's hard to say since they were around "back then."

Pink Floyd's one of Motorpsycho's many different inspirations. Not sure on which albums they sound most like'em, but I'd say check out Let Them Eat Cake (think early psych Floyd with a pop twist) and the EP from this year's tour, Here Be Monsters Vol. 2 (I'm hearing a strong resemblance to "Echoes" here).

I hear Pink Floyd in Jambinai. Older ones Nektar first album sounded really much Pink Floyd at the sixties. i think at first in Amon Düül II they wanted to make same kind of music as Pink Floyd.

PF are one of the founders of the genre, so there is an influence in many of modern prog bands

I see influence in bands as different as Spock's Beard, Riverside, Pendragon, Djam Karet, Porcupine Tree
