Two artists who hit it huge in different spectrums of music in the 80s. Do you like the folky and ambience of Vega or the cameleon carear of Madonna.. pick your fav Listening to Solitude Standing by Suzanna Vega, a very good album Love Luka  -------------

Suzanne is still a touring musician playing small theaters, coffee houses and pubs; Madonna is still an international symbol famous for everything but her music. ------------- I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there..... |

Madonna by light years, she was more progressive in her career and hit different genres, as well as a tremendous performer. I have zero guilt in listening to Madonna records. -------------

I think shes not upp ther with Kate Bush nor Joni Mitchell, but she might be the third most important influence in female singer / songwriter whoms sound effected other later artist -------------

Are you kidding me ? Of these two, SV of course (though she aged poorly, I saw her live just a couple years ago and it broke my heart) But nowhere near my fav female singer/songwriter, I can think of half a dozen right from the top of my head (Tracy, Joan, Joni, Sandy, Judy, Annette, ....) |

Always thought Old Ma Donna plumbed the depths of '80s pop shallowness with an ability and aplomb that matched the nude photos supporting the vacuity of the audio content. The piano solo in Like A Virgin is a career highlight. Not being funny, it is good and stand s proud of the cloying 80s production "values". I'd go well out of my way to avoid something that seems like a porn version of The Sound Of Music but without the actual quality and meaning (and it's one actual funny moment). Not familiar with Suzanne Vega, I may have heard something but it has not caught me yet. My fault. Seems like she'd be the artist to listen to than the other one to avoid. |

I would choose Sarah McLachlan over both (or even Joan Osborne). For this poll I chose Suzanne.
