Between these 7 Rush epic tracks with a length over 10 minutes what are your two faves?
My choice: 2112 and Xanadu.
I can rank the rest: Necromancer, The Camera Eye, The Fountain of Lamneth, Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage and Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres as least fave.

Your choice and ranking?

Xanadu. Gave my second vote to The Fountain of Lamneth (had to choose between this one and The Camera Eye).

The Fountain of Lamneth is my favorite probably because somehow it touched me shortly after an acid trip when I forgot to stop my media player from going through my collection. I woke up listening to something by Rush I never heard and it's disjointed structure made me go "what album is this?" until I checked and saw it was an epic. Loved it ever since. Second goes to Cygnus part 2. That one is always just a great listen but it took me awhile to realize that.

Necromancer and 2112 have the most hard rockin' moments so I went for those two.

2112 followed by Xanadu, with Book II a close third.

I remember that moment back in the year 1980 (or was it in 1981 ?) when I heard Rush for the first time (I was happy enough to hear 2112 record as the first ever Rush album) and my astonishment I felt then. It is 2112 suite which started my Rush affection (especially for their 70's and 80's works). And so - can I vote differently? No! 2112 proudly gets my vote.

I will have what they are having!

Almost every time I listen to Camera Eye, It takes me to a different place. Such a great song. I especially like to listen to it on cool, rainy days. No idea why. lol Some will say it's boring. To those people, I say they miss the point but whatever, liking or not liking is a personal thing.

For Hemispheres, it is the Rush epic to end all epics. Yes, over 2112. At least for me.

As far as the rest of the list, only 2112 and Fountain of Lamneth would never be listed high for me. 2112, while great, never clicked with me like it did for most Rush fans. I love Fountain but I don't love it more than Xanadu, Necromancer, and Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage. On any given day, those songs could also be my 1 and 2.

If I had to rank them all in preference today it would go like this

Camera Eye
Hemispheres
Xanadu
Necromancer
Cygnus X-1
The Fountain of Lamneth
2112

Definetly Necromancer and The Voyage (especially the ending). Too bad Natural Science wasn't a choice (that middle part, hot damn!), it was ProgRush at it's best.

Looks to be just 10+ minute tracks that were included. I may have voted for Jacob's Ladder if it was in here, though.

Is that all there is to define "epic"? Jacob's ladder hardly fits usual song format, it builds and creates a wonderful atmosphere. The very essence of symphonic, er, I mean prog rock. So all they had to do was throw in another solo and it would be epic. Ah, what a swizz.
