Tie between Boc and Buckethead for me. I'll go with BOC because I enjoy more of their albums compared to Buckethead

I'm nostalgic for Queen, the very first band I ever loved and definitely my gateway to full-blown prog (I really don't listen to them much anymore, though, but I'd never consider getting rid of their albums), I hugely admire so many of the works of Vangelis (I would be hard-pressed to say that I love all of them, but every one of his Seventies albums were completely fascinating), and Iron Maiden are great.

But absolutely Black Sabbath gets my vote for that faultness run of great albums with all the Seventies Ozzy-led ones - yes, including `Technical Ecstasy' and `Never Say Die'! - plus they also had a couple of good Dio-fronted ones and cool moments scattered here and there after that.

David Bowie, mainly for Low and Heroes. 80's Metallica, 70's Black Sabbath, and Talking Heads are all fine groups as well. Most of the rest are enjoyable but unremarkable.

Bowie is the best band in that list.

Steve Vai, but I'm not even sure why he's just "prog-related". He's full-blown prog to my ears. Rainbow, Sabbath, and Wishbone Ash all have great albums, too.

I don't like to choose best, but I love Bowie's music.

Vangelis would come second for me. I've noticed that I generally prefer artist names to band names in Prog Related: For example, aside from those listed: Terry Riley, Gerard Manset and John Cale for his terrific collaboration with Terry Riley, Church of Anthrax. I also like Jarre for Equinox and Oxygene a lot. Those that I have most wanted to see added to PR generally aslo have have been artist rather than band names.

Yes..I'd go with Zep, Wishbone , and then Sabbath/ BOC.........never really thought much of Maiden.
IMHO Bowie is of those overrated artists that's either hit or miss in his songs.

1-Queen (easily)

2-Maiden
3-Bowie
4-Zeppelin
5-Sabbath

Though many of those have some great albums.

Rainbow is so lonely there with no votes that I was tempted to vote for them... but in the end overall I like Zep better. Still, Rainbow deserve to be doing better than that.

Yes yes and yes. I'll add Lucio Battisti to the list (which again proves the artist name rule-of-thumb still reigns supreme) - as I adore everyone you've mentioned. Just listened to La Mort d'Orion here the other day and was quite simply swept away to a dreamy and otherworldly French delirium.

Thumbs Up

Many good bands on that list but Zep came out before the others (except for Bowie) ,had pedigree ( Page was in the effing Yardbirds ), and their range of material and songwriting was amazing for basically a blues rock band. Bowie was certainly diverse over time and Queen could be diverse but there was something hidden in Zep's depths imo that cemented their place in rock history. Though to be honest none of the bands mentioned are all that proggy to me .

Seriously....? Just about every Brit blues rock  (and some US ones) borrowed heavily from early black blues men . Zep became huge so they were noticed for doing this. I do agree they should have given credit to those artists for several of the songs they reworked, but they didn't at the time.

This is kind on unfair. how can possibly someone choose only one band? In my opinion you should have given us the opportunity to vote for at least 3 bands from the list. That way it would be easier, funnier and fair enough.
I am not going to vote, because I simply can't choose only one band.
But if I had multiple votes, I could vote for: Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and Queen.

There is a big difference between homage/riff borrowing and outright note-for-note, word-for-word theivery. There is only so much you can do with 1/4/5, but they didn't even bother with a thesaurus.

Strangely enough I voted Malmsteen for his impact on heavy metal guitar which took us out of Eddie VH's iron grip and into an era that still echoes loudly today.   No one yet since has had a bigger influence on the style and sound of metal guitar.

Almost half of the bands on the list are among my all-time favourites. Having to choose only one, i went for the mighty BOC (surprise, surpriseLOL!).

yeah, there's about 6 of these that I hold in equally high regard. So I voted for Buckethead because it was BS that he had no votes.
