Both are great, but Xanadu blows Stairway to Heaven away.

StH for me has been played out since the heyday of FM radio, and also every year it is the #1 song on every classic rock radio year end list. It became a generic song for me......Ironically I spun LZ IV last weekend and really got into the song for the first time in years.
Clearly it is a masterpiece.......
But I can listen to Xanadu (and have been since the album came out) without issue.
Good poll.

Love them both but give me the Stairway to Heaven. I know it's overplayed but that's not the songs fault.

Xanadu. More exciting music, but of course Stairway will always be a classic.

An actual vote from me that is not for the Rush song. As overplayed as Stairway may be, it has still been one of my favorite songs for a long, long time.

Compare these two songs is rather strange. They are different beast IMO. No vote here.

It's the Olivia Newton John/ ELO stitle song of a roller-disco movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb4WLZHXcds" rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb4WLZHXcds which Samuel Taylor Coleridge based his poem Kubla Khan on:
"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea. So twice five miles of fertile ground With walls and towers were girdled round; And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills, Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree; And here were forests ancient as the hills, Enfolding sunny spots of greenery...."
Anyway, I voted for "Stairway to Heaven":
"Stairway to Heaven" by Alison Hawthorne Deming
"The queen grows fat beneath my house while drones infest the walls
reconnaissance to feed her glut, wood ripped from studs and joists.
I’ll pay to drill the slab and ruin her pestilential nest. How to find
the song in this day’s summons? I’ve been accused of darkness
by my inner light. My brother sits in the chemo chair another long day
of toxic infusion, the house of his body— bones, brain and balls gone skeltering.
I sit in my parked car listening to Robert Plant recall how the English
envied the Americans for getting the blues, getting all of it, into song...."

I'm going for Olivia's version of Xanadu.......
although Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich's "Legend of Xanadu" kills them all!!!

Zep's classic is not really prog but still beats Rush's 'effort' hands down (the lyrics sound like they have been written by a 14 year old)

I don't like Rush much at all but Stairway is one of the worst songs I've heard, in my opinion.
Zeppelin have far better songs they deserve to be recognised for but I digress.
For this, I pick rush

Rush fan here and Xanadu is one of my favorite Rush tunes so that gets my vote.
Stairway is a classic and legendary song, no question at all but definitely overplayed and overexposed. I never need to hear it again.

Stairway for me...........but then overall I like Zep more than Rush. Xanadu is a bit 'choppy' at times and imho STH flows better throughout the whole piece. Having said that I do like that Rush album.

Yeah, I guess few songs stand a chance against Stairway to Heaven... well, at least as far as classic non-prog songs go. But Bohemian Rhapsody would be one of them.

I love Rush but Led Zeppelin are gods in my book, so "Stairway" got my vote.
Led Zeppelin are #5 on my favorite artists list. Rush could be as high as the 30s, but they wouldn't be higher than that (they'd definitely be in my top 100 though).

I keep putting off doing my 3rd leg of my battle polls.. the battle of the prog song one (regardless if by 'prog' bands or not.. but both of those are to be in it.. and likely would meet due to the way I had the brackets set up.
