Do any out there know of any prog musician or band who is influenced or touched by the swedish ballad tradition. This tradition is quite rich. It is at the core of swedish (and scandinavian) song traddition. Called vise sang, it has a unique touch and has it roots back in 18th century. Carl Michael Bellman is the progenitor if swedish bardic ballad (visesang). hes songs have been translated in ceveral languages. Other known vise songs participants was Evert Taube, Cornelis Vresvijk, Sven-Bertil Taube, Fred Åkeström and Alan Edwall. I guess some of Bo Hanssons instrumentals has a atmospher, while ironicly no vocals, have that feel similar to Taube an Vresvijk. So are there any prog bands whom shows a pride in this tradition and carries out in prog fassion. -------------

Hi Chris - hope you entered 2017 in style like myself  I feel the whole vise tradition is heavily echoed, though most often, through the wholly unique folk instrumentation of certain bands. Bands like Kebnekaise (first 4 albums in particular), Archimedes Badkar (especially their second album), Arbete & Fritid, Ragnarök (debut), Nya Ljudbolaget, Fläsket Brinner, Älgarnas Trädgård - hell even Björn J:Son Lindh flirted around with this. The vise tradition stems from 'folkemusik' and the abovementioned artists all experimented with it in one way or another- most of them developing this psychedelic, folky, light jazzy almost Krautrocking expression. For starters I'd go with Kebnekaise, Nya Ljudbolaget (Brudevals) and Fläsket Brinner's second release 'Fläsket'. ------------- “The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. | That's why I went with a joke, half sarcastic (or whatever) reply, otherwise I would have gone mad about how the important thing is the music, and how I find it interesting to check music in other languages, and the site is an english speaking one for the discussions, but there's nothing saying that we can't discuss about music in other languages, etc. But I didn't. |
