I put these up side by side as two heavier pieces. Which do you prefer?

I'll go for Back in NYC, but love Clocks. Tough choice.

Not Genesis. That's easy.

Surprisingly tough choice; I recall Gabriel's first tour 40 years ago - this was the only Genesis song he played.  When people shouted for 'The Knife' a la Genesis Live, I remember verbatim his response, 'in these modern times, who is interested in ancient history?'

Hackett.

Borrow a 10k turntable/arm/cartridge and a decent amp/speakers. Put a vinyl copy of Clocks/Angel of Mons on and turn the volume up LOUD.

Then you'll understand.

Hard choice indeed. I will have to think very hard before I can vote.

I don't have THAT but I decided to listen to Clocks anyway before voting.  Yup, it's super-heavy.  Very powerful instrumental even if it sets the tone for Hackett's future KC imitations.  Back in NYC is very funky and all but voting for Clocks.

This. Genesis do have a lot  of their moments. "Back in NYC" isn't one of them (again, within or without the context of The Lamb ... .)

"Clocks - The Angel of Mons".

Two great tracks but once again Hackett gets the vote.  Clocks, Angel of Mons is one of the tracks that defines Spectral Mornings.

I do and the Hackett track is one of the very best tests of a hifi imaginable. It's not music: it's an aural overdose.

Spectral Mornings is seriously overrated.
I usually only reach for the first two when needing a Hackett fix.
NYC - hands down.

The first two what? Spectral Mornings was his third album, if that's what you mean. Are there other later Hackett albums that you regard more highly?

I was playing Back in NYC in the car the other day and my girlfriend asked "What the hell is he shouting about? I can barely make out a single word, apart from 'sh*t'"
