Nomadic is:
Tom Heslin - bass/vocals/synths
Eric Gulbransen - guitars
Chuck Bontrager - violin
Henry Jansen - drums

Nomadic came together as a result of Eric and Tom's desire to create some music inspired by their mutual love of classic progressive rock, along with other styles that exhibit texture, dynamics, free-form creativity, and originality.
They decided early on to go for it without a full-time keyboardist, but wanted another element to keep from being "another power trio" so to speak. That's where Chuck comes in. A fully trained classical musician who has done extensive theater work, and has performed with the CSO, Chuck has another side. With his 7 string violin through a full blown guitar rig, Chuck can go from beautiful violin melodies, to over-driven power chords.
Henry and Tom have worked together with a variety of artists, both on stage, and in the studio, and have a great working relationship and understanding of each others' playing. Henry's impeccable timing, and solid, hard hitting style made him an easy choice for the drummer position. As a trained pianist, he also understands music and song structure as a whole.
Eric's versatility and theoretical knowledge make for some great dynamics in the guitar department. A true "texturalist", he goes from clean, complex chords voicings, to shredding leads and crunchy rhythms.
Tom adds his multi-tasking skills to the mix. Primarily a bass player, he also adds texture by way of bass pedals triggering various synth patches, and is also the group's lead vocalist. Originally a mostly instrumental band, Nomadic is gradually finding more and more vocal tunes coming into the mix.

I know you're probably added in already as Crossover Prog, but your music sounds more in step with the Heavy Prog sub-genre. Also got the Rush vibe in the first couple tracks, but not to the point of ripping it off-I like it!

Random question, though- what model is your bassist's Rickenbacker bass- 4001 or 4003? I'm a bassist myself, so I'm just curious to find out what you had. I love their bright tone.

Just because a band have been suggested doesn't mean that they will be accepted into the sub genre mentioned, or even onto the site at all Smile

. Currently, out of a team of four, they have been voted on twice - once as a Yes, and by me as a move. I also hear the Rush influences, and think they would be better suited in the Heavy sub genre. It's only when all the team members have voted that we know what is going to happen with a band - but with one in Canada, one in the US, one in Japan and me in NZ it can sometimes take us a while to get to all of them!

Thank you everyone for your attention to this. Heavy prog was on my "list" of possible sub-genres, along with prog related and eclectic. Funny thing, our violinist is the "heaviest" guy in the band. A lot of the "metal guitar" tones you hear are actually him. =)

As for the basses - Track 1 is a 4003S with Alembic pickups and electronics (since gone back to Ric single coils).
Tracks 2 and 4 are an 8 string 4003S/8, and track 3 is a 4001CS Chris Squire Ltd. Ed.
