The yes album 90125 was basically a grand record critically it catapulted yes into commercial radio, with hits like OWNER OF A LONELY HEART and LEAVE IT the record on the whole is quite good, the lyrics are very profound especially in the song HOLD ON the crisp drumming on CINEMA and the moving ending of HEARTS the oddball is CITY OF JOY quirky but understandably with Trevor horn producing ,i must say i still enjoy 90125 even to this day much kudos to the introduction of guitar player trevor rabin, south African born rabin is one excellent axe man, not to diminish any of steve howes playing ,rabins hooks and soloing, is among the best ive heard overall a very positive outing for yes and yes fans alike.

I heard it for the first time not long ago expecting a disaster but i thought it was actually quite good. Far from the best of Yes but still definitely enjoyable.

Rarely played (once every 5 years maybe) but always a good listen.

I like Owner of a Lonely Heart, Hold on, and Cinema a lot, but besides those ones I find it unremarkable. I guess if I put it on I'll enjoy it, but if I don't put it on again I just won't care.

Since day one of 90125, I have loved that album. The production is stellar, musicianship is top notch.....Its an amazing set of songs.

This one, and Big Generator, were my 'gateway' to Yes back around '87. I appreciate both but have moved on from them - y'know ; Topographic, Fragile, Drama......
Thanks, 90125. Still love the song Changes.

Yes is possibly the only prog band that I really like at their commercial peak, the album is still full of moments not alien to their older work. There are minimalist elements, pseudo-Police sounding parts, guitar solos and still a lot of heart in the songwriting. Of course it has a real 80s sound, but it seems to have aged well! Thumbs Up

I think I would even say I like it more than Fragile (not CTTE or TYA or TFTO's though)

I think it's one of their best albums. Certainly in their top 5. I also think it's one of the best albums of the 80's of any genre.

Yes's nr 1 at least on par with Fragile and CTTE. Sahring my fondness for 90125  is actually how I registered on Progarchives !

Owner's magic groove... Hold On... Cinema then Leave It (the groove !).... Our Song (groove!) ... Hearts !! Dancing; playing air guitar to all those Rabin solos...

31 years after first listening I can't help loving 90125 the more

Trevor Rabin if you ever happen to read this: I hope you don't find it boring to play all your 90125 solos exactly like on the album

Thank you Yes for that Heaven on Earth !!

Yes were actually pretty popular as a cult band and beyond even before 90125.

Crisp production, but I like to think of it only as a bump in the road for the Yes boys. Naturally, I wish they had expended their talents working on something a little more proggier at the time.

Good for them for making a record that was more commercially successful than anything they did previously. Sure, we would have all liked a more classic Yes album but it's not like we don't have several of those to choose from.

Count me as a fan of "Owner." Yeah, 90125 is much different, because it began life as a different album by a band that wasn't even going to be called Yes.

I also like "It Can Happen" a lot. Cool song. Overall, the album is a good jam, though it stops for me after "Leave It."

Not my favorite by Yes, but I like the album and saw them on that tour in the 80s.

It was not meant to be a Yes album when most of the tracks were first demoed. The band was first known as Cinema before Jon Anderson was invited. Chris played Jon some of the tracks, Jon liked them and agreed to sing on much of them while adding some lyrics and maybe changing things a little bit. Apparently Jon said something like "well, if I sing on these songs it will  sound like Yes." Chris Squire's response was something like "well, that's the  idea." :)

I think it's a very good album but I actually prefer Big Generator because I feel they took more chances with it and some of the tracks are "deeper" and closer to vintage Yes. I seem to be in the minority of those who really like BG I guess maybe partly because I remember when it first came out and I was already a big Yes fan by then.

I loved "Changes" and played it to death when it came out; I still think it's pretty good but I don't play it that often anymore. "Owner" is very clever and well done, same holds for "Leave it" in a quite different way, but the rest of the album never really clicked with me emotionally.

i agree big generator and talk were very worthy yes albums, although really did not care for shoot high aim low, a very clunky track i feel .

Not only my favorite Yes album, but my favorite rock album of all time. I bought it on a rainy Saturday morning, February 11, 1984, and it has never failed to captivate me since. And yes, it was also my gateway into Yes in general and all their other albums (I bought Yessongs at the same time).

As far as the other Trevor Rabin albums, Big Generator was a vast disappointment, Union was the band's nadir, and Talk has both some very high highs and very low lows.

I liked it at the time, but it hasn't held up for me.  Too cloying and repetitive in the choruses.

On the other hand, Genesis Shapes, from the same era -- Didn't much care for it back then, but nowadays I find it goes down much better than 90125 to my middle aged ears.  Embarrassed

I've always loved it, heard it for the first time in its entirety back in '95. Obviously heard Owner of a Lonely Heart before.
Still having fun listening to it every once in a while. :)

As a pop rock record or mainstream aor record(ie Asia, Styx, Boston, Foreigner, Journey etc)it's fantastic. As a Yes record it's middle of the pack at best. As a prog record it's not even invited to the dinner party.

In Yes terms it's very progressive, because it's such a departure and progression from what they had done before. The contrast between Trevor Horns crisp, almost electronic pop production including the use of sampling, and the heavy rock guitar makes it both distinctly rock and prog. It's far more 'progressive' than Drama IMO, and vastly superior in quality to Tormato.

Rick Wakemen once said he wished he'd been involved with it.

It was also my introduction to Yes, so I guess it's quite special to me for that reason.
