Arena is a very good band (how could it not be with Clive Nolan). But IQ is the daddy of all neo bands. ------------- A TVR is not a car. It's a way of life. |

IQ for sure, but i like Arena aswell but not as much as IQ
IQ is probably my fav neo band, for the consistency of each album since from their first album

| Arena for me. IQ's discography is more consistent, but that's probably why I'm not as much into them. Arena might have some weaker albums but I think they take more risks and try to do something much different from the last. |

I have Subterranea, played a couple of times... ok but for some reason it just didn't click. Not familiar with Arena. I've tried neo prog but the only stuff I liked was Fish era Marillion. Is this because making prog rock ordinary (very straightforward) is not engaging the interest I wonder. The result of the long lasting pop cultural impact of punk - a bit like how Radiohead get to be regarded not only as a prog band but modern times THE prog band to the general public. When it should be P Tree. imho... |

IQ win by a very large margin here, but, in all honesty, I’m not a huge fan of either band. IQ win on the strength on The Wake, which may be their best album in my opinion.

| Yep, Arena for me too, even though IQ have made the better albums. It's just that many of IQ's albums have a fairly similar sound and they've mostly spent their decades honing that specific sound and those kind of arrangements, whereas Arena's have a bit more variety. |

Arena for me. Both have fantastic albums, both have weak ones, but the main reason is that i've seen IQ live now three times over the last six or seven years and three times i was bored as hell with their performance (or maybe it just was Nicholls and i wasn't the only one with that impression). Arena on the other side have way more energy and positive attitude live. |

I prefer IQ but I'm not a huge fan of either. I've seen IQ live a few times and did enjoy them. Harvest of Souls, off Dark Matter was brilliant live, as was The Seventh House. Never seen Arena. Overall though, I don't want to hear prog bands with Fishy/Gabriel-esque singers. ts been done before, and better  Listening to John Mitchell with Arena and It Bites, I don't mind that so much as his voice is less whiney and more husky. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

| I know I'm in the minority, but I gave Arena my vote. I'm not the biggest IQ fan, though I do enjoy their music. Arena was always, for me, more progressive and less derivative than IQ, and it's for that reason that I enjoy their music more. Each album from them is different, which I can't say to the same extent for IQ. |

IQ are one of my favourite bands so an easy vote for them. BTW Coincedentally I just watched a youtube video of Andy Edwards picking his 10 favourite prog albums and putting IQ - Ever in the list. (he played drums on Frequency in case you don't know) Arena are a really good band and probably technically on a higher level than IQ. John Mitchell is a great guitarist and now they have one of my favourite vocalists involved in Damian Wilson so will be interesting to see where that takes them.
