I prefer ALS by far. It doesn't have boring and repetitive moments as Hemispheres.

Both could be done in half the time they conjure up in the studio version., although they both contain a lot of energy, that makes it weak.
I should re-listen if I'd want to choose, tough choice.

That would be Hemispheres, wouldn't it? What's on Presence isn't exactly everyone's favorite (I've heard), and Hemispheres just shines (what about the repetitiveness).

Hemispheres is one of my favorite Rush albums.  Unlike most fans, the Side 1 Hemisphere's epic is my favorite part of the album.

Led Zeppelin’s Achilles Last Stand by a country mile. I am a fan of Rush, but never felt that their longer pieces held together too well. I’m much more into their 80s period (from Moving Pictures through Hold Your Fire).

Achilles Last Stand, easily. Even though my prog fandom would like to prefer Rush, I actually think Led Zeppelin has more monster songs than Rush, and Achilles is one of them. And no, cutting it in half just wouldn't do.

2 bands that may not be in my top 100.
But Achilles is my favourite Zep song.
Hemispheres is on one of 2 Rush albums that I listen to at all.
Zep gets the vote today.

Hemispheres is probably the only Rush album I own. Mine has the red disc. Remember buying it just for that reason. I don't even own any Zeppelin albums. Led who?

By the way every time I listen to "the song remains the same" I think it's a Rush song...

This one's a no-brainer! Hemispheres by FAR.
Achilles Last Stand is one of Led Zeppelin's worst songs: repetitive, simplistic, overlong and almost unbearable.

Hemispheres blew my mind on first listen, but I've come to think of it as the worst track on that album... It's full of great ideas, but there's too much repetition of themes.

Achilles last stand however is incredible. The driving excitement of that track held together by Bonhams drums never fails to move me, so it gets the vote.

I like both songs but for all those who are criticizing Hemipheres for repetitiveness, Achilles suffers from the same affliction.

That's true.

I guess it comes down to whether what is being repeated has the effect on the individual of excitement or irritation. Repetition can have either effect, as dance music often illustrates.

ALS to me is like driving at high speed in a sports car on a deserted autobahn, whereas Hemispheres feels like rattling along an uneven dirt track in a covered wagon..

Now, the question would rather be, "Achilles Last Stand" or Vand Der Graaf Generator's "Sleepwalkers".

You could get your wish. The concert version from Vienna 1980 has an under 7 minute performance. It worked better as the full version. There's quite a lot happening in Achilles.

As for Rush their tour versions of Cygnus 1 and 2 made the work far more cohesive.
