Has anyone else experienced instrumental song snippets stuck in their head without being able to recall where they are from? The annoying thing is that there's no lyrics to look up and it's easy to forget the unidentified snippet while listening to music in order to recall it, until it pops in back my head after a few hours or even days. In the past few months, I've had instances where the following instrumental sections have eluded me: Änglagård - Kung Bore guitar solo 7:23-7:45 Uriah Heep - Been Away Too Long refrain riff 0:34-0:49 Boston - Foreplay/Long Time organ/guitar riff 0:29-0:53 Eloy - Poseidon's Creation synth solo 3:28-3:51 and synth melody 7:39-8:24 Genesis - The Knife guitar solo 5:30-5:53 |

Sometimes but I usually can pinpoint it after a few minutes of stewing. | I just spent about a year pondering a brief section of Harmonium's Histoire Sans Parole, yet I was unable to identify it until last week, when I had the album playing during a barbecue. I mainly remembered the section because it felt vaguely reminiscent of a melody from Godspeed You! Black Emperor's East Hastings. |

I had the main motif that plays at the beginning of Nucleus' Torrid Zone playing in my head since about May 2016 and hadn't been able to identify it until just a few weeks ago. As to shorter instrumental bits, I had about 8 seconds of Comus' Song to Comus playing in my head for quite a while, too. ------------- Categories strain, crack and sometimes break, under their burden - step out of the space provided. |

Sure all the time. Everything from the psychedelic coda of Il Balletto di Bronzo's Epilogo to Dave Sinclair's keyboard wizardry on 9 Feet Underground. Yep, this happens to me all the time. I can't think of any examples that stick around for more than a day or two at a time, but I pretty much always have some sort of instrumental section floating around in my skull. Right now it's the first 2 minutes of Cherry Five's The Swan Is A Murderer (Part 1). That Rickenbacker!  And very often I also end up forgetting what song the particular section is from, but I can usually piece it together in a couple of minutes. Usually this only happens if it's something that I haven't heard in at least a few months.

I guess this is more common than I anticipated. I once used my phone to record myself humming the tune so I wouldn't forget it. Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences! |
