Queensryche - Saga - Dream Theater

Gritty steam punk and fictional yet social critical and focused on narrative.

Not a big Dream Theater fan but Metropolis is a very good album and gets my vote here.

Of course Saga takes my vote on this one.

I like Operation Mindcrime, but that's a whole different genre; hairmetal/hardrock with progressive leanings like Savatage's Streets and W.A.S.P.'s The Crimson Idol.

I never cared for Dream Theater. No hate, I just don't care.

Though none is on my favorite list, I'll go with Queensryche.

DT out of these

I haven't listened to these three albums in quite a while, but then again I have listened to the albums by DT and QR a lot at some point, maybe too much.

I quench my Saga thirst with the live album In Transit (1982).

Saga's album is funny but good, one of their best musically. "Operation: Mind Crime" was actually a disappointment for me back in the day because I really liked what they did on "Rage for Order" which just seemed so different and futuristic. "O:MC" just seemed to go back to usual metal while delivering a concept narrative. Musically it was too typical compared to "Rage".

"Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory" is the album that made me appreciate Dream Theater's talent more so than "Images & Words".

I used to be a fan of particular bands like Rush, Yes, and Deep Purple. Now I travel the Proglands, exploring a little bit of everything. I have become a Prog Voyager.
