Disclaimer: I'm fan of keyboards and cold to guitar music in general, especially all kinds of shredding and over-the-top soloing. But what I enjoy is melodic, "singing" electric guitar, which is almost like human voice (and can serve as substitute for vocal lines in instrumental pieces). Examples of guitarists in prog who play in such style are David Gilmour, Andy Latimer, Roine Stolt , occasionally Steve Hackett, Steve Howe and Robert Fripp Here is classic example of "guitar vocal" or this |

Edhels Oriental Christmas. I couldn't find any of it on YouTube. Lots of guitar spotlighted throughout. The solos have kind of a Hackett feeling with glorious sustained notes, and occasional Fripp sensibility at times too. The rest of the instrumentation is like a modern-day backing track, not inherently interesting on its own, but just functions as a platform for the guitar. There are some pieces from another album on YouTube, but I think Oriental Christmas targets what the OP is looking for a little better. ------------- A curse upon the heads of those who seek their fortunes in a lie.
