Please vote for no more than 3.

My favourite of these is definitely Sulle Corde di Aries and today second and third go to Dedalus and Celeste.

Tilt, Maxophone, and Inferno (in no particular order)..
I probably prefer the second Arti e Mestieri album, but both are amazing beyond belief.

And as far as Goblin, nothing can beat Il Fantastico Viaggio Del Bagarozzo Mark for me

Only 3? That is impossible with this kind of selection.
I love all of these - many of them go back with me to the very start of my love affair with Italian music.
3? Alright, today it's Battiato (always Battiato), Cervello and Il Balletto di Bronzo although my finger obviously went for Area instead.

Very nice selection here Hubert.

I see you made an 'other' option which I take is there both to please certain folks and for recs.

So yeah erm hang onto yer boots!

Similar to Biglietto per L'Inferno:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DsYfbKdSPI" rel="nofollow - Semiramis

Beautiful melodic prog pop a la Battisti:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igEEw-IGYGE" rel="nofollow - Blocco Mentale

Rocking and psychedelic classic (w flute):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8vj4wT3CbQ" rel="nofollow - Capitolo 6

High priestess summons her powers behind Battiato-like organs n electronics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwfjDWTqw7Y" rel="nofollow - Pierrot Lunaire

Similar to Cervello but wholly unique:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZxZWGZk6uo" rel="nofollow - Rocky's Filj

Strange enigmatic combo of electronic, library music and psych rock from the insides of a cardboard box:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvGpm3jPF4E" rel="nofollow - Nascita della Sfera

Drummer's delight with two raging percussionists over mostly instrumental RPI:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2HNcAjdu3U" rel="nofollow - Campo di Marte

This is what you can do without synths in your RPI baby!:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCisHWOlw6E" rel="nofollow - Procession

Gelatinously smooth babybottom psych with loads of melodies:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2o_sjKo0gI" rel="nofollow - Sensations' Fix

Area-like spastic behaviour served up with spiralling Italian folk music and melodies where you don't normally find them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48B1Q346L-s" rel="nofollow - Il Canzoniere del Lazio

If you dig Celeste then this is your jam. I prefer this to Celeste actually:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcdHAfCh6aQ" rel="nofollow - Il Paese dei Balocchi

PFM with a 60s Moody Blues twist:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSyiHbVohYI" rel="nofollow - Dalton

Zappa in Italian:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Udn98CjxwHg" rel="nofollow - Persimfans

Quella Vecchio Locanda's badly produced second cousin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mXnhq7E410" rel="nofollow - Samadhi

Plenty more where they came from. My fingers just ran out of gas.

^Love Blocco Mentale and Sensation's Fix!

Very tough choice, too tough, but went with Rovescio, Quella, and PFM.

Voted other.  I like all those albums.  I rotate my Italian albums on Saturdays.

God's gift to the world was the Progressive Italia Gli Anni '70 Boxsets, which is how I got Portable Madness and Fragments from Sensations Fix on CD, Al Mercato Degli Uomini Piccoli on CD (which is fantastic), both the Latte E Miele's (which Papillon is one of my favorite albums ever), Stradaperta, Jumbo's Vietato 18 and DNA.. Ibis' Sun Supreme. Madrugada.

Another one's both the Il Volo albums,
Grupo's Ipotesi,
Carnascialia (which has Demetrio Stratos' vocals)
Formula 3's Sognando,
Etna,
Delirium's three albums,
De De Lind

Good poll, but it's missing some of my favorite Italian albums Smile

Celeste, Area & QVL...

But if Jumbo had either Vietato or DNA, they'd have gotten a vote for sure

Threw for a vote towards the underrated Biglietto Per L'inferno. Rather surprised to see no votes for Osanna yet; I assume that'll change pretty quicky.

1. Quella Vecchia Locanda - s/t
2. Il Balleto di Bronzo - Ys
3. Locanda della Fate - Forse le Lucciole non si Amano Più

Well that was pretty easy; my 3 favourite RPI albums all happened to be in here!

Storia Di Un Minuto, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Cherry Five were my picks, though there's a solid 15 or 20 albums in here that I like.

This list of albums is quite impressive, and the list of albums not mentioned is also quite impressive. Voted for PFM, Goblin, Banco, but it could as well be many others.

I just recently went through an RPI binge checking out all those albums that have eluded me and i am consistently in awe of how much high quality music emerged from Italy in a short period of time. I am utterly unable to choose between these because the list is to chock full of my favorites but i'll try.

Il Balleto di Bronzo - Ys for being the most unique album on the list
Area - Arbeit Macht Frei for being my favorite band on the list
Osanna - Palepoli for probably being the album i've listened to the most

For me...(I have always had some difficulty getting into Italian Prog) the most listenable are PFM, Cherry 5, and Maxophone.....though I do have many of the others on that list but need to play them more often.

BTW....where's Micky...?? He's a huge Italian prog fan and should be weighing in here.....it seems he hasn't posted for about 3 months..?

Darwin!
Felona E Sorona

Palepoli
Maxophone
Forse le Lucciole non si Amano Più

Now if L'isola di Niente had been on the list I would have gone that route!!! (The first two PFM albums are good and all but the third one is - as Bill Bruford might say - the cookie.)

Those wondering about Italian prog should start with this list! Anyway, it's Felona'.

Odd that Storia di un minuto is running away with this one as it has always been one of my least favorite, over-rated RPI albums! Would much rather have suggested Per un amico. Still, glad to see so many wonderful albums getting so much love!

^Accordo dei Contrari would be an anachronism in this list. But in this case it might fit more or less with the name of the band, which translates as "Agreement of the Contrary" Wink.
