The Pineapple Thief and Riverside are indeed worth a hearing. Airbag have a Porcupine Tree/Pink Floyd feel - so you might find some Steven Wilson echoes.

Try Weavin' Stilson.
I hear he's good, if a little erratic.

I also really like his Storm Corrosion album with Mikael Akerfeldt, though I can't really comment on how similar it is to his solo stuff as I don't have any Wink

^Was it the recipe for gold? If so then please pm me asap.

I came here to recommend Airbag, Pineapple Thief, Lunatic Soul and Gadi Caplan. I see the latter hasn't been mentioned yet...which is odd seeing as he is the finest of the lot imho. Steven Wilson meets a young David Gilmour and decides to add some melodic jazz rock to the already breezy mix:

Wilson is unique. I don't know why some people hate him so much!
Grace For Drowning is one of the best albums, really!

^I actually like his music...been a fan of Porcupine Tree probably when you were still in diapers.  ;)
My point is that he sounds more like others than they sounding like him since he has borrowed styles from many before him. Indeed he has said as much himself in interviews over the last few years about bands that he likes and influenced him.

^I have to agree Steve....he did some nice things with PT....his solo things don't have the same appeal for me though there are some nice tracks on Raven and Hand.

DeeExpus could be worth a quick look (especially the Half Way Home album). Big PT fans and they even had an enjoyable homage with PT Tee on the album - with a killer introduction that demands playing at 11 on the volume when the full guitar riff first kicks in at 1:38!
