I found the 2017 thread to be a valuable resource for discovering new music last year, so I'm starting one for 2018. This is a thread to discuss and recommend (and speculate about) albums released in 2018.

Here are a few I know of:
Rabbit Rabbit Radio (Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi, featuring Jeremy Flower and Jon Evans) - http://rabbitrabbitradio.bandcamp.com/album/rabbit-rabbit-presents-black-inscription" rel="nofollow - Black Inscription (Release: January 11th). A song cycle about the oceans, inspired by the death of Russian free diver Natalia Molchanova. Anyone familiar with Carla & Matthias should know to expect quality music. I'd give individual song recommendations, but the whole album is excellent and should be listened to from start to finish (If you're looking for a sample, I'd go with the title track).

Gleb Kolyadin (iamthemorning's pianist) - Gleb Kolyadin (Release: February 23rd). Featuring Gavin Harrison and Nick Beggs as the rhythm section. I love Gleb's work with iamthemorning and look forward to hearing what he does with mostly instrumental music.

Jack o' the Clock - Repetitions of the Old City II (Release: TBD). Repetitions I was one of my 2016 favorites, so I'm optimistic about Repetitions II. The band – which now features saxophonist Ivor Holloway and singer Thea Kelley – expects the album to be ready in "early 2018."

No idea if it's on the slate, but new music from Zombi would be awesome.

I know that Bubu is in the process of recording their second full-length studio album. Hopefully this year they'll finish it up.

Not sure if this qualifies, even though it just came out a few weeks ago.  Definitely progressive, though!

While somewhat underwhelming with respect to the progressive part of progressive rock, Subsignal consistently deliver polished, moody, personal, and melodic albums in the progressive rock world. So I'm looking forward to La Muerta quite a bit. (I'm hoping for some Latin influences since the title is in Spanish, and the ostensible theme would benefit from having them.)

Another release I'm anticipating is from Yuka & Chronoship. Their last album is a sonic adventure full of great keys. I recommend listening to The 3rd Planetary Chronicles if any of you haven't already.

Moon Safari said they're going to release Himlabacken Vol. 2 this year; so there's that.

Yes! The first RotOC was a very good step forward for the band. Can't wait!

Well here's a surprise - live album from Aquaserge dropping 27th April:

And it's with the horn section, too. Gotta have this for sure.

So, a new Pryapisme album is with us:

https://pryapisme.bandcamp.com/album/epic-loon-ost" rel="nofollow - https://pryapisme.bandcamp.com/album/epic-loon-ost

Their influence from video game tunes has always been apparent, but now they have gone the whole distance and done the soundtrack for an actual video game.  Just listening now, and it's quite fun - though so far, no real departure from their previous work.

Here's a trailer for the game:

Moon Safari, Bubu, Logos, Yuka & Chronoship? All set to release albums this year? Nice!!!

Also there is still a good chance that a new one from the Neal Morse Band will arrive in 2018. And, perhaps, even Anderson/Stolt 2 could see the light of day!

And Phideaux? I'll hold my breath.

So far, Fernando Perdomo's Out To Sea has been on non-stop rotation around these parts. My favorite of 2018 so far.

It's certainly made a bigger impression on me than anything else I've got from this year.

Also, the new Aquaserge live album dropped through my letterbox this morning. Been a good couple of days for new music!

Just bought it. Going to be a tough one to knock off the top of my AOTY. I was sceptical at first. Poil just does so much on their own as a trio. But then I heard Ni for the first time.

Another CA? I'll admit I was disappointed with last years - not because it wasn't good, but because I already had pretty much all the songs from subscribing to their website, and didn't pay enough attention to realise that before I bought it. XD

The new Cavern of Anti-Matter is pretty good, Hormone Lemonade, most noticeably if you're into old school motorik Krautrock.
Others? Hmmm I just got myself a country album that I really dig. Alright it is tinged with psychedelic and alternative vibes, but still.
I love surprising my brain with genres it previously hated to the max. Amen Dunes he's called!
Oh I also just got the new U.S. Girls album Unlimited Poem.

The only album I've got that's featured on PA is Fire's Hands. Damn fine record though.

I gave up on the C-A subscription, I liked the music but it just didn't feel like an album. I wasn't connecting with it as much as I do with their albums if that makes sense. I therefore only doubled up on a couple of tracks and liked the album.

their best for 19 years although it's still only 3-4 stars. Pretty solid. I like Galahad's latest album as well.

I have heard a few Perfect Circle songs that got me somewhat interested, and then last weekend that I visited the CD's shop, they happened to have it on, so I heard a bit more of it. Maybe it's not the proggiest thing around, but it sounded very nice, I shall be getting it. It seems to be doing well in sales too, actually (though I would have to check that out).

It's probably because I'm not keeping big resource lists, but this year seems a lot slower on new releases than '17.

Here's a few favs from the first trimester of '18

Piniol- Bran Coucou
Rivendel - Sisyfus
Anna von Hausswolff - Dead Magic
Not a Good Sign - Icebound
Perfect Beings - Vier
Pryapisme - Epic Loon OST
Tusmörke....maybe

There's a new Worldservice Project album, Serve, coming out on Rarenoise.

Good stuff, as usual from these lads.  They are generally described, including by themselves, as 'punk jazz'.  But it's pretty proggy punk jazz, IMO.

Apparently Art Zoyd came out with another box set called Phase V already in Jan. 2018. Unfortunately I can't connect to artzoyd.net right now so don't know much but it seems it's 5 CDs of material recorded between 2009 and 2017. Has anyone heard this already? Has it overlap to stuff that is already published? (I should get it regardless but anyway...)

New releases I've been listening to this month:

Apr 27: https://piniol.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow - PinioL - Bran Coucou : This one seems to have gathered quite a bit of attention here already. An absolute nutcase of an album, coming from the merger of French avant groups PoiL and Ni. I think I still prefer the last two PoiL albums, but this is awesome nonetheless.

May 5: https://notagoodsign.bandcamp.com/album/icebound" rel="nofollow - Not a Good Sign - Icebound : Dark symphonic/eclectic prog from Italy, composed mostly by Paolo Botta (Ske). David Jackson of VDGG fame appears on one of the tracks! It didn't grab me right away, but I love 1000 Autunni and will have to give it some more time.

May 18: https://benlevingroup.bandcamp.com/album/our-place" rel="nofollow - Ben Levin Group - Our Place : The new album from Bent Knee's guitarist, Ben Levin. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it, but I think it's my favorite he's done. Great mix of electronic & acoustic instrumentation.

May 25: https://skingraftrecords.bandcamp.com/album/fades" rel="nofollow - Cheer-Accident - Fades : CA has rapidly become one of my favorite bands since I heard last year's Putting off Death. Fades sounds completely different from that album, focusing more on shorter, "rockier" songs. I wasn't sure what to expect given how recent their last release was, but this is great.

Still looking forward to the new Jack o' the Clock, which is coming out this Friday. Also looking forward to the new Phideaux, due for release sometime this summer (hopefully).

^ Leucocyte is still my favorite from EST, but Live In London is a damn close second.

i have to say that 2018 has been pretty disappointing for me so far.
the only album that really blew me away is the armed's "only love", one of the most sublimely arranged albums i've heard in the last 10 years but i suppose you have to be on the really really really heavy side of music to like it.
i gave the new spock's beard a listen but didn't manage to get to the end; i liked the new mind over mirrors album, "bellowing sun", a synth-kraut-math-something with the participation of john mcentire from tortoise.
for those who like the singer-songwriter stuff, ryley walker has made a really cool album called "deafman glance", with lots of references to tim buckley, nick drake but also talk talk and more modern sounds.
last, a weird album called "instrumentalmusik von der mitte der world" by wolf müller and niklas wandt, some kind of ethno-kraut-psych thingy which came out very fun and entertaining.

God Is an Astronaut
Barren Earth

Subsignal has just released their new album, looking forward to listening to it.
Also Arena, Anubis and Spock's Beard.

^Tesseract sounded interesting, same with Arena, which looks like a return to the past.

Spock's Beard is treading on safe grounds and the same applies to Subsignal (poppier than previous albums, decent songwriting)

Listening to the new Lady With - The Lodge. Ambient fusion quasi-soundtrack. Already has a solid top10 spot for the year. Good stuff.

I have just discovered the existence of this:

https://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/johnzorn" rel="nofollow - John Zorn - The Book Beriah Box Set

In two minds about it really. Some of these are bound to be great. It's not clear if the individual CDs will be available separately later. I'd have to assume so as I couldn't see Zorn wanting a significant block in one of the main structures of his life's work to be available only ephemerally. But I can see why no statement would be made on that whilst they are trying to sell the box set.

I just released my concept album, Drakus.  It's about a dragon that destroys a village every century.  It's spanish guitar driven with some Trumpet throughout.

I have a kickstarter campaign for the vinyl and cd release if you like it and want to help it get off the ground.

To be honest the only thing that has stopped me doing the same (so far) is the thought of the shipping and duty for UK delivery
