I initially thought of Genesis - SEbyP because it's from 1973, when Novalis' album came out but it would not be a fair poll I guess.

So Trespass is like a Genesis prog debut, so that's why I chose it.

Vote and discuss...

Apples and Oranges. Novalis have one disadvantage: Their drummer is horribly boring. Nevertheless I like "Banished Bridge"; when I was very young (around eight years old) it was one of my favourite albums. I would rather give my vote to Genesis now, but for nostalgia's sake I'll go with Novalis.

apples and oranges? aren't they both symphonic prog?

boring drummer? I did not find him boring at all.

John Mayhew is on Trespass. Many complain about him as well. I don't know why, but anyway...

I bought Banished Bridge 20-odd years ago and it lasted not more than a couple of weeks in my collection. Latter Novalis albums are pretty awesome..

John Mayhew is not the most interesting drummer either, but he still is better than Hartwig Biereichel.

As to "Apples and Oranges": Novalis may be listed under Symphonic, but "Banished Bridge" is in my opinion a typical Krautrock album.

Probably Novalis have more albums that are better than Banished Bridge than Genesis have that are better than Trespass. And then Genesis is a top 6 band, so it's hardly a balanced poll. As much as I love that Novalis come up, I can't vote for them here. Banished Bridge is OKish, not great (although I would probably have voted for it at the age of 16 as Novalis are local heroes from my hometown).
By the way, I agree on Biereichel's drumming, but I think he was pretty important for the band as a person and because of his record label connection (I forgot for which label he worked).

Although "Trespass" isn't my favorite Genesis album (Seeling England by the Pound), nor Banished Bridge is my favorite Novalis album (NOVALIS "Novalis") . Tresspas gets my vote !
