I thought of this last night. I think I covered most of the big ones and a few lesser known ones also. If you put "other" please make sure you don't mention one that has ships or sailing in the title otherwise it could get a bit ridiculous. Try to stay as close to ocean/sea as possible.

I went with Nektar but Myriad's "Sea Of The Sinking Sun", Jean Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean" or Secret Oyster's "Sea Son" would all be right there too.

I totally forgot Secret Oyster's Sea Son. I thought of it initially but forgot to add it to the rough list. My bad.

Topographic Oceans is a top 3'er for me, so I went with that one pretty easily.

Some other worthy mentions (prog or not):

Deluge Grander - Oceanarium
High Tide - Sea Shanties
Sea Level - Sea Level

And if you wanted to a bit more liberal with the scope of ocean-themed titles, you could always throw in Mediterranean Tales (Across The Waters) by Triumvirat for good measure.

Honourable mentions that weren't included:
-Permanent Waves by Rush
-The Ocean and the Sun by The Sound of Animals Fighting
-Violent Waves by Circa Survive

From this list I pick Moving Waves.

I could pick Deluge Grander's Oceanarium as well. Discipline and Eloy are also pretty good.

I have it on vinyl somewhere. I recommend it to fans of mid 70's Pink Floyd.

Of these, XTC's Black Sea because, well, XTC. Maybe not prog, but, you know, XTC.

After that Cardiacs and Yes's Tales.

Other non-prog: Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain is also a damned fine album of the sea.

It's not an album, but I've been listening to "Oceancloud" off of "Marbles" and can't help thinking this is Marillion's best song. Sorry to go off-topic, sort of.
Among the selections here, I go with Eloy followed very closely by Focus, then Jade Warrior, Nektar and Yes. Yes has my favorite song of all these groups, "Revealing Science of God," but the rest of the album is hits and misses, often in the same song. IMHO.

Haven't heard nearly all of these. Went with Nektar from the ones I know.  Missed Ocean Gypsy/Sounds of the Sea, both by Renaissance.

I'm surprised at how far ahead Tales is, honestly! I just assumed everyone hated that record.

I don´t hate any Yes records, if I remember right I put Tales somewhere in the middle when ranking Yes-albums in the other thread. First album is almost as great as the Yes Album & Fragile, but second really not.

Tales has grown .. forum wise over the years in terms of love and respect..  you weren't here on this site when it was truly hated forum wise.  I think the turning point was my review hahah which pointed out why haters of the album were f**king idiots

Sailing the Seas of Cheese please.  I saw them on this tour opening for Rush.  Tommy the Cat and Jerry Was A Race Car Driver are two excellent, but weird songs on a good album.

Moving Waves, without doubt.
I'm amazed that the winner is winning. I loathe the pretentious, overblown pile of wombat poo.

I only know the albums by Jade Warrior, Nektar & YES in this poll. Normally, I'd vote for YES, but they have enough well-deserved votes already, so I'll go with Nektar this time around, even though my vote is just a drop in the Topographic Ocean of prog. Smile

I'm not. Wombat poo is funny stuff! From this list Discipline, but Jean-Luc Ponty "Enigmatic Ocean" is the bomb.

Weird, it seems I already voted, but I hardly ever vote without commenting, and there are several albums I love in this list. Maybe I made a poor joke and decided not to post.

I would guess that I voted for Cardiacs - On Land and in the Sea, which has been a particular favourite Cardiacs album. Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is another fave and very nice to see it in the list, and I really like Brainticket's Celestial Ocean. Moving Waves would have got my vote at one time, but I haven't listened to much Focus since the mid 2000s.

As for other: I also like High Tide a lot (first two), and well, I'm sure there must be lots in my collection that could fit.

Prog-related to me, but one that does spring quickly to mind is Pram's Sargasso Sea, because I have been very into Pram quite recently.

Very good poll.

I'm absolutely not a fan of the Yes double album...

Mediterranean doesn't necessarily mean the sea it could be the countries bordering it so I'm going to have to say no.
