My personal ranking on these five:

Animals
2112
Trick of the Tail
Songs from the Wood
Going for the One

Honestly, 2112 and Trick of the Tail are SO CLOSE. Catch me on the right day and Trick would be second. Also, I don't think that Yes album is BAD, but it's not as good as any of the other ones here, imo.

A Trick of the Tail - a gem of an album and very evocative of a special time and place for me (hence my avatar). Songs From the Wood comes in second for me, but frankly all five are excellent albums!

The only one I can rule out is Going For The One - the rest are all very good.

Today, I go for Animals.

This makes me think about a possible poll between the 3 epics from these albums. I guess it would be interesting.

Going for the one is vastly superior to all the others. Awaken in top 10 symphonic prog tracks of all time. 2112 a distant second and Animals somewhere out beyond the orbit of Uranus.

Today it's GFTO, but the first four albums are really close.

Songs From the Wood by a fair margin. Never really got into 2112 the song after the wild Temple of Syrinx part. Ending is cool and noisy though.
