Steve Hackett's first three solo releases represent three widely divergent styles. While Spectral Mornings contains several great songs and some great moments, and Voyage of the Acolyte displays a very Genesis-like sound palette, I find myself preferring Please Don't Touch! as an overall effort. This is mostly due to the amazing performances of guest vocalists Richie Havens, Randy Crawford, and Steve Walsh (Kansas)--some of the best of their respective careers. Five songs that I can never get enough of. Plus, there is the adventurous "Voice of NECAM" and the gorgeous instrumental with his brother John dedicated to his then wife and album artist, Kim.
What are your preferences and, praytell, why?

Three fantastic albums from one of my top favorite guitarists. Each with a different mood, and all three with excellent music. I cannot choose, honestly.

have to agree Havens and Crawford do an amazing job on Please don't touch--not a fan Steve Walsh type singing but the song is good---Voyage is a great album even tho it has a lot of collaboration on it---Spectral Mornings is an album I listen to a lot for title track and Everyday---so its a tough call. Guess Spectral because I do think title track is one of his best instrumentals---and Everyday is powerful too

Spectral Mornings just edges out Voyage of the Acolyte for me, although Please Don't Touch has many highlights too. 3 fine solo albums.

Spectral Mornings, but all three are excellent.
The 2015 re-recording of the title track with words is astonishing.

Voyage of the Acolyte is the best solo effort by any Genesis member.

I love Spectral, but I don't think anything will top Voyace for me.
'75 was quite a year with Hackett releasing Voyage and Hillage releasing Fish Rising, two of the greatest solo prog albums ever.

VOTA, by far. "Ace of Wands" (with Phil Collins drumming!) is sublime.

Spectral Mornings will always be my favorite Hackett album. VOTA and PDT are very close behind, however. All are very special, IMHO.

I'm not as familiar with the second and third so I won't vote but I think voyage is the best Genesis sounding album that Genesis never made(with G&G a close second).

Acolyte...a continuation of the Genesis works of the early seventies and far better than anything genesis did after 1977.

Please don’t Touch for me. I was never overly keen on Voyage of the acolyte although it’s ok. Spectral mornings had some dodgy sound production, particularly on the title track. There were also too many filler tracks on that album although I’ve also always found that Hackett in general has always been something of a filler track specialist. At times quite a superb artist and at other times just a bit dodgy, contributions to Genesis notwithstanding

^Wow! You hit the nail on the head! "filler specialist!" Awesome comments!

Defector is missing here, IMO peak of his early career. Out of these Spectral Mornings, followed by PDT. Debut sound uneven to me, Hackett seems he's still searching himself as a songwriter there. Would be also interesting to compare his latter albums, since Guitar Noir/Darktown until the recent one.

Voyage was ok, wish it were more really (until I heard the bonus material and wished the opposite).
Now whatever is said about the first issue production wise on Spectral does not apply on the remaster. Touch is fine but the title track of Spectral Mornings hits the spot... most effective solo Genesis moment for me I think.

Voyage makes me sleepy, but I did like Twin Towers. PDT seemed to scatterbrained but maybe I haven't digested it enuf. Spectral hit the spot as flowing great music!
