Just some randoms songs. All are epics but my favorite is maybe Echoes because it has so many different sounds who are still awesome and very dreamy lyrics. Supper's Ready is my second because it has genuine lyrics and story. 2112 has extremely good guitar and drums and philosophical spacey story, It's my favorite Rush song. I like the Jazz Fusion flavor and the lyrics about war and peace of The Gates Of Delirium. Taurus 2 is my favorite Mike Oldfield Song. Tarkus is interesting too because it has the most half-baked story here. I'll end up voting all of the above.

Wasn't there a 30 plus minute song by Transatlantic called "all of the above?" ;)

I think you have Caravan's album title instead of the song "Nine Feet Underground." There is no 20+ minute epic called "In The Land of Grey and Pink" Voted Echoes but could easily have been half-dozen others on this list. Also Phideaux "Chupacabras" and "Ommadawn" part 1.

I voted "all of the above," the sort of thing I don't usually do, but all of these are essential prog listening. My favorite would probably be Gates of Delirium.

Agreed, but I voted the Gates because it just has a touch more of that sumpin' special than the rest.

SUpper's Ready is prog perfection---incredibly moving---but Gates is a masterpiece of electronic rock jazz music.

Suppers Ready.

Ah, so much good prog! I have to go with Rush's 2112. That's one of my favorite pieces of music ever.

BTW, check out my list on Rate Your Music if you want lengthy epic length prog.

Thanks to many of you on this site for making the list larger than i could've done alone.

Tarkus - Blew me away when I first heard it and it still does.
Also Love Echoes and Supper's Ready.
Despite being a huge Rush fan, 2112 never clicked with me like it does with most other Rush fans. I like it but I'd much rather listen to the Fountain of Lamneth or Hemispheres.

Circumstances by Capability Brown is fantastic
Illusions On A Double Dimple - Triumvirat
From Silence To Somewhere - Wobbler

From this list for me it was between Echos & Suppers Ready.
I decided to give some love to Echos, I'm sure Suppers ready will get plenty of votes.

Lizard of this fantastic list. Quite hard to choose really. If Thick as a Brick or A Passion Play (Though they take the whole album, still are both one piece of music) would be included, my vote would go to either of them.

I'm goin with Tarkus because that connects with me on an emotional level. When that Tarkus tank blows up that iconoclast, I'm moved man, I get the FEELS. Like I need to go out and take a walk and think about the meaning of crap.

I really love almost all of these long prog tunes - they would make a great day's playlist. However, I need to put my customary vote in for Supper's Ready - the 'daddy' of them all!

Tough. Yes, ELP, Rush, Miles, Oldfield, Genesis, Floyd..

It's not multi-vote, so I clicked All of the Above because I can't decide between Yes or ELP.

I too voted "None of the above" as a protest, but at the non-inclusion of any modern-day epics.

Difficult choice but I had to go for Supper's Ready, the epitome of the prog epic. Although Tarkus has a special place in my heart as one of the very first songs which got me into prog at a very young age.

A poll about prog songs longer than 20 minutes doesn't need to be comprehensive to include "A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers".

From this list? The one with Winston Churchill dressed in drag. Tarkus fairly close.

From the unlisted, Magma's Theusz Haamtahk.

From the list, a tie between 2112 and Lizard. Had your Milesentry been Right Off from Jack Johnson, it would have been a three way tie.

Phideaux Chupacabras is great too

I happily voted for "Lizard".

Just to mention a couple of lesser-known ones:

Geinoh Yamashirogumi's "Osorezan". Actually, it's 19:55, but I made a cut with added screaming. Just kidding, but I do have a live version that is longer.

And Bjorn J:son Lindh's "Musik från en storstad" (21:48).

Much as I like "Echoes", my favourite long one from Pink Floyd is the "Atom Heart Mother" suite.

Edited this garbled post -- just lack of sleep, I hope.
