Subject: New Releases January 2019
Date Posted: February 02 2019 at 10:12

I put together a list of all the new releases of January 2019 to make it easier for everyone to do reviews on all the new stuff.  I made a New Year’s Resolution to try to make reviewing new releases a priority, and have found some really great discoveries while doing so.  There are some that I didn’t get to, but I found out that there are several out there that didn’t get any other reviews than the ones that I posted.  I want to put this list out on a monthly basis in order to hopefully help other members see what is new and provide more reviews on the new releases that get forgotten about and slip into oblivion.

Anyway, here is the list of what was released last month.  I am sure I have missed some, so feel free to add to the list, but make sure they are listed on this site first.  If they are not, and you think they should be on Prog Archives, then go into the thread that is created for that purpose, namely “Suggest New Bands and Artists”.

As you can see, this is quite a list.  I tried to review everyone of them, but was unable to do them all, so I decided not to review live albums unless requested by the artist.  There were a few others that I didn’t get to that I am hoping to.  But, this is a daunting task and so your help is much appreciated.  These artists rely on our reviews to help spread their music around.  Just pick a few that you think you would be interested in or do as many as you want.  Most of them are available for streaming on Bandcamp or YouTube and other places.  You might find something you really like, like I did.

Here are my top picks (in no particular order, remember I missed a few):

1)     Mono – “No Where, Now Here”

2)     Rozmainsky & Mikhaylov – “Adventures at the Babooniumfest 2017”

3)     Buke and Gase – “Scholars”

4)     Helium Horse Fly – “Hollowed”

5)   Magnesis – “Alice au Pays des Delires” (1st disc)

      6)   Lost Crowns - "Every Night Something Happens"
      7)   Celeste - "Il Risveglio del Principe"
      8)   Evergrey - "The Atlantic"

Honorable Mentions:

1)     Mad Fellaz – “Mad Fellaz III

2)     Samuel Cadima – “Outros Horizontes”

3)     Michael Zucker – “Strawberry Melt”

Feel free to add comments or add any that I may have forgot and I will edit this list.

Any suggestions will help as I plan on doing this every month, but feel free to review any time!

Actually I did notice that you entered a lot of the new releases and that was extremely helpful.  I really appreciated that most of the NRs were already added to the database thanks to your work!  Clap  This way I could spend more time reviewing.

This album is incredible and I'd be very surprised if it isn't sitting at #1 on my list come December.

I have heard it and I reviewed it.  It's pretty standard Santana with touches of R&B and jazz fusion, made up of 3 new tracks and 2 edited versions.

Great job, TCat! Also good job with all the new 2019 reviews. I don't keep up with new things as much as i should because there's so much old stuff lurking out there! This is a valuable resource indeed :)

Thanks Silly Puppy.  When there are a lot of new releases like there have been in the last 2 - 3 weeks, I get behind and then start to wish I can review something more familiar, but I'm going to keep trying.  I think I'm behind like 10 new releases now and it seems I will never catch up.  So you'll see something reviewed from my personal collection once in a while.

I was unable to find Stephan Thelen in the archives as a solo artist.  They must be entered in the archives to be included on the list.  You can request the artist addition in the appropriate thread.  Thanks!

Honorable Mentions:

1)     Mad Fellaz – “Mad Fellaz III

2)     Samuel Cadima – “Outros Horizontes”

3)     Michael Zucker – “Strawberry Melt”

Feel free to add comments or add any that I may have forgot and I will edit this list.

Any suggestions will help as I plan on doing this every month, but feel free to review any time!

I have heard it and I reviewed it.  It's pretty standard Santana with touches of R&B and jazz fusion, made up of 3 new tracks and 2 edited versions.

Cool, just read it. Every time I think Carlos may revisit Santana III-Caravanserai-Welcome territory, he seems to only drive by it like a car splashing gutter water on a bystander. I'll still check it out.

I was unable to find Stephan Thelen in the archives as a solo artist.  They must be entered in the archives to be included on the list.  You can request the artist addition in the appropriate thread.  Thanks!

I did this already.  No one has taken any actions.

I've only got the Vangelis album as yet. The only one I'm excited about getting is In Continuum - Acceleration Theory which is Dave Kerzner's latest project and features both Marco Minnemann and Nick D'Virgilio on drums.
I'm not sure if it's got a proper European release as yet though. I would rather not pay the £18 odd pounds + £5.23 delivery if I purchase from Amazon US.

Karfagen X "Echoes From Within Dragon Island " A Symphonic Art Rock Masterpiece! 2019"... A concept album Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's Poetry...
Echoes from within Dragon Island is a 4 Track compilation consisting of 3 epic Dragon Island suites with a beautiful interlude (My Bed is a Boat) nestled in between Dragon Island Suites 2 and 3... Karfagen is a Ukrainian band lead my the delicious talents and brain child and keyboard wizardry of Antony Kalugin... He started his journey under the title of Karfagen in 1997. As a child he was introduced to Pink Floyd's "Animals" by his father and that's the introduction to progressive music that officially started his prolific musical journey.
The 9 previous offerings by Karfagen are as prolific as anything else he has created, all equipped with highly talented musicians...  This latest offering "Echoes from within Dragon Island" may very well be his greatest accomplishment yet, consisting of 19 musicians and a plethora of instruments... I highly recommend this musical masterpiece to anyone who enjoys progressive music, but be prepared to be taken on a world wind journey through this incredible mind of Anthony Kalugin...

Antony is also a key member of "SunChild" and HogWash.... Keeping Progressive music alive!

The avant team does have this in their collaborator room for discussion.  I think that it has two yes votes, and might be waiting for one more.

Wow.  Yeah prog died in the '70's LOL  I almost exclusively get new releases when I can afford to make additions to my collection.

Yeah I know the feeling.  A lot of the new releases can be streamed on Bandcamp so at least you can get a preview of it and decide if you want to buy it later.

Steve Hackett's latest is great. I've now listened to In Contuum - Acceleleration Theory and it doesn't disappoint. Kerzner must be one of the most talented guys in prog. For those that don't know this new band has replaced Sound Of Contact and arguably is better. Nick D'Virgillio is off the scale brilliant at times.

Lebowski has a new album out? Man, I loved Cinematic when it came out back in 2010. Will definitely have to check that one out.

I'm overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of new music being released, one should listen to 2 new albums a day to keep up!!

If I listened to 2 new albums a day I'd have no time for everything else in my collection.

It is quite a lot of music, and when I started this project, I didn't know there was going to be so many new releases.  Expect the same for February as there are a lot of new releases scheduled for just the 22nd alone, 8 is the latest count including the new Dream Theater album

As a relative newbie to prog, it's sometimes pretty difficult to balance listening to the classics and to the newer stuff, given that there's so much new music being released these days!
