Both are very good, but I prefer Red over Larks

This is hard to choose. I'll have to think very hard before I can vote.

Like both very much, but choosing Larks' Tongues in Aspic was an easy choice for me.

Love both, but Lark's Tongues is the winner for me

Easy. Lark's Tongues. Lark's displays a richness of expression that its robust lineup promises. Red is too stripped down, too minimal for me. A really wonderful track on Red, though, is Providence.

I guess Red. I wanted to vote for Larks Tongues, but in the end as a whole album I think Red holds up better. Now, if I would consider some of the live versions of the songs instead of the studio ones, perhaps Larks would end up taking it.

I agree with HackettFan, LTIA promises so much with its lineup and mostly delivers. I wish they played in a quintet for an album or two more. So I pick Lark's Tongues in Aspic.

I choose timeless beauty and emo-prog so Red for me. Doesn't mean Larks title track part 1 & 2 is any less catarthic, but there's also an element of which album came to me first and what it has meant over the years. Nostalgia and stuff.

Red, by a slim margin.

Both are classics.

I think it's jelly? But spices can be included.
Does anyone have a recipe, perhaps? Hard to get larks' tongues these times, though.

Both amazing albums but Red gets my vote. "Starless" is one of the best tracks in the whole of prog and One More Red Nightmare and Providence are superb as well.

Red, easily: the pinnacle of '70s Crimson. The music on Larks Tongues was far more groundbreaking, but the album suffers from an antiseptic production, and the studio performances sound a little inhibited when compared to live versions of the same material...

I'm almost certain this one's been done before. Anyway, it's RED, baby!

In the history of King Crimson, Larks Tongue In Aspic is surely most important than Red. It's more innovative than Red. More elaborated. But... for the strict plane of the quality of the songs... Red is better.

I actually find Larks better, but that's per my tastes really meaning simply that I prefer it (I enjoy the music of Larks that much more), but it depends upon which qualities one values. That said, I find both albums great in their own way. It boils down to personal preference. Red would the more accessible album to most, I would think. Lizard is probably my favourite KC album these days, and Islands (which commonly does not get a lot of love around here) is another particular favourite of mine.

Yes but Red was mixed so freakin' loud sometimes it's highly impractical to digest even at a low volume.   My god is that thing loud.

That's quite literally my biggest (and only gripe) with both records:

LTIA is WAY too low (verses on Easy Money require cranking volume and then bringing it back down for chorus)...

...Red is WAY too loud!

Damn it!

LOL. The lyrics are rather random, no? Same with pretty much...every KC song ever (especially this era).

Gonna have to go with Red on this one. Was my top KC album for a long, long time, and it's still on my constant listening rotation.

While both are great albums, overall I like the songs a little more on Red than LTIA, so Red gets my vote. Also, Red has Starless, which is one of my favorite songs of all time.

The saxs in Red make the difference with Larks.

I'll go with LTiA. Both Starless and Bible Black and Red are the logical progressions of the sound first created on Larks', right down to the menacing metal Fripp first employed on the title track. The experimental nature of LTiA and the Orientalism introduced on that album have always intrigued me.

While LTiA is where they showed more innovation from the previous album, I prefer Red by a small margin.
