Just listening to some songs recommended on the forum of Overhead and one called Confessions of the Grim Reaper reminds me an awful lot at the start of The Police - Walking on the Moon and then at one point sounds a bit like The house of the rising sun and later Pinball Wizard. What level of influence constitutes plagiarism? Does anyone know?

Don't think there is any such concept in music, barbs. Not even Queen could take out the rappers who stole that bass riff back in the 80s(?). I think the problem lies in the concept that melody is intellectual property in a song, but harmony isn't. I think the gist of this is that you can basically use any music as backing harmony to a new melody and get away with it. I may be wrong in this intellectual property bit though.
