Here's a new visual "Just for Fun" thread.
Rules are very simple: post pictures of two persons (at least the other one being a musician, preferably known from prog circles) who look rather similar.

The other one can be an internationally famous person, or someone known only in his/her own country, or a non-celebrity that you know. Or even yourself, if you look like some musician. Big smile

We could make this double fun by not naming them immediately, ie. letting the next game-joining person to identify at least the other one. (If the other is not generally known, it's wiser to include his/her name right away.)

Here's the first pair, probably easy to recognize both musicians:

I always thought there was a certain similarity between these two iconic guitar players:

And what about the men in my posting?

I think there is a similarity between these two people:

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Peter Hammill and Michael Palin, two legends. you have a point there

These two guys are not musicians but German actors. There definitely is a similarity though.

The one on top is Alexander Schubert, the one below is Jörg Pleva.

Hints: What other Canadian band was often compared to Rush, even though their style was very different? Who is the John Denver of France? Who hid his ships on Galveston Island in Texas?

No idea. FM? - apparently not. You can tell us, I guess.

I'm going to post some more pairs on wednesday...

Neil Peart is correctamundo. Next up is Mike Levine, the bass player of Triumph. Then, you have Francis Cabrel. If you don't know him, listen to La Fille Qui M'Accompagne sometime. He's great when you just want something not too heavy to listen to. Next is the renowned French pirate, Jean Lafitte.

OK, here's a new pair. I guess no hints needed for the one in left, the other (R.I.P.) was a frontman in a British prog band.

That looks like a Gibson ES 335. They both look familiar but I'm struggling. This game is not as easy as I thought it would be.

Not Greg Lake, but really miss him and Keith Emerson.
Not Jack Bruce. Miss him too.
Not Allan Holdsworth. Yep ... miss him as well.
Not John Wetton ... miss him greatly.

Okay I'm getting depressed now.

You mean mine? That's Rik Emmett on the left and Mike Levine on the right of Triumph.

I loved their more progressive music.

The guitar man is Roye Albrighton of NEKTAR. A tough one, i admit.
But how come no one knows the other one?? He (R.I.P.) was a pretty legendary rock figure. Here's a picture of the groundbreaking band he was involved with, he's in front:

the other is so obvious that no-one mentioned him. it is of course Lou Reed of Velvet Underground

I must've misread, too. I was thinking that you were saying that the prog guy had passed away. I guess that threw me off a bit. You got any others to give me a chance to redeem myself?

His secret to longevity - Oatmeal in the morning. Not the instant crap you get at the store. I'm guessing steel cut oats. To be able to play guitar that well ... perform complicated music for that long on stage and at that age ... and still be writing great music after being in not one, not two, but three successful bands ... respect, man! Respect!

The guy paired with Phil sure looks familiar... Can't remember though.
Is he a French prog musician (somehow Pierre Moerlen's Gong comes to my mind, but this might go totally wrong)?

He passed away a few years ago. He was in several groups, but you might remember him as the original guitar player of a very well known English prog band.

^A good one. Actor Richard Gere and Roger Waters.

The first one of these is Finnish singer-songwriter Jukka Kuoppamäki (I don't expect you to know him), and the other is a guitarist, singer and composer in a classic British prog band founded in the late 60's.

^ David Gilmour, is the other one Kurt Cobain?

These really  look alike, a contemporary art music composer (very popular) and a British composer, arranger and group leader known from the prog circles:

Pärt is actually Estonian, not Finnish. I don't reveal the other one yet, as I believe someone will recognize him.

Here's a new pair. Everyone knows the pop celebrity on the left. The other is a key member in a popular American band.

Correct (I presume you know the pair of Paich as well).
Is the upper lady Courtney Love? No idea of the other (neither is exactly up to my taste for women, to say the least!).

Yepper! It's David Paich from Toto. They are great and Steve Lukather is an amazing guitarist. Hint on above: in the beginning of her career, one was accused of copping the other's New Wave style, but I wouldn't say that is necessarily fair.
