Not entirely sure how Swans got in as Post Rock.  Maybe because there wasn't a category for Music To Slit Your Wrists To Rock.  Anyway this is not meant to be a comprehensive poll but about artists that I do have in my collection.  Inspired by running across Mono Holy Ground NYC Live while updating my Chronolizer and found it came with a DVD that I had forgotten about and am now watching and enjoying.  BTW I've heard a lot of good word about Godspeed but I just don't happen to have any.

Mono. I saw them live last week and they killed it.

Could it be that you haven't checked out the Swans-trilogy post their comeback-album?

Generic Post Rock like Explosions in the Sky feels like an updated version of Shadow Music (=the armada of bands worldwide playing guitar led instrumental rock resemling The Shadows).

Mono definitely from this list.  I do love the most recent Swans albums too.

I only know three Swans albums well, Soundtracks for the Blind, To Be Kind and The Seer, but I enjoy those and will give Swans a vote. I haven't explored post-rock that deeply, but Swans has been one of my particular favourites of what fairly little I do know. Tortoise has been a particular favourite (I have tended to like the more experimental rock ones).

I'm not really a fan of any of these but I guess I've enjoyed Maserati the best from what I've heard

I think each of these bands has some great music, as well as some not-so-great music. Hard to vote.

Godspeed (YBE) and Silver Mt Zion, on the other hand, are among my favourite bands, and I would vote for them over most others.

if Swans is post-rock then King Crimson is metal

from actual post-rock bands - Mono
