The first album in some ways seems more wild and rough around the edges to me while Birds of Fire seems more polished so my vote is for BoF. I agree that both are great though and maybe me being still somewhat new to IMF and first heard BoF when I was a teen has something to do with it.
For anyone reading this not familiar with this band these two albums are both in the progarchives top 100(the inner mounting flame is number 66 and birds of fire is number 33).

Both almost equally, but went with Birds of Fire since it was my first album by them before hearing the first one. Plus I wanted to make the voting results a little more interesting  -------------

I've only heard Birds of Fire, and was somewhat blown away by the musicianship. I won't vote. I;d need to hear the other album first. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

Mounting Flame. They're both good, and like most of the other albums, 'Birds' has some standout tracks, but I don't think MO ever managed another whole album as intense and focused as IMF. |
