You've never heard dogs?

Well... make sure you listen to the rest of the album when you get around to it!

Like I said lol. But yeah, it's an album I've truly never listened to. *ducks and walks quietly but quickly toward the exit*

In all seriousness though, it is about time. So I will do that. Thanks.

Ok I listened to the whole Animals album. It was very good(dogs and sheep especially). Then I listened to all parts of Shine On.. Hadn't heard all of it in a long time. Voted for Dogs barely over Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Pink Floyd is undeniably great, just overexposed on classic rock radio I think. Where I live it honestly seems like they're played more than any other band.

Glad you liked it, repeated listens brings out even more in that album...

Echoes definitely although I don't like voting against the other two as they are on my two favourite PF albums.

That's a good idea! Thumbs Up Atom Heart Mother is one of Pink Floyd's epic songs and the album picked up four votes in my recent Pink Floyd albums poll.

Echoes also has one of the best endings in music: a Shepard tone.

I voted for dogs. I would have voted for shine on if it was more specific as to which section. If it said all parts then fine. Otherwise I don't think we should assume anything.

Although I wouldn't have voted for "Atom Heart Moo-ther" above "Echoes", it is an epic Pink Floyd song and I could listen to it until the cows come home. Smile

A Saucerful of Secrets ain't epic enough??

Oh well: I went for Echoes, but Shine On might have won my vote if it wasn't split in half (although I totally understand the aesthetic/thematic reasons for the division...)

Interesting. What if there were no individual song titles? Just....

Side A) The Dark Side of the Moon (part I ) Time 19:27
Side B) The Dark Side of the Moon (part II ) Time 23:42

Wonder if that would have affected the perception of the album at all over the years.

I voted Shine On... with Echoes a close second.

On a related note, I play the "spooky" part of Echoes (11:20 thru 15:00) on loop out my front window when the Halloween trick or treat kiddies are wandering up my long, dark driveway.  Helps to set the mood.

^ I had not thought about recommending much Floyd to you because I felt it was clear enough that you were not interested... I mean, already delving into full prog and not being interested in them, it had to be for some reason... it seems it was mostly because what you knew were the radio friendly overplayed hits. However, indeed these are some of their greatest songs... still remembering your love for Zappa, and the little I heard from him, you might be interested in their early (pre Dark Side) live era. There's lot's of jamming in it, making 3 / 5 min songs friendly to the music industry into 10 + min epics. Yeah, they may not be the greatest technical instrumentalists, but it all works wonders for me.

It's got to be Shine on You Crazy Diamond for me. Actually, my favourite song of all. As for those not voting for it because of not knowing which part is being voted for, I assume it's the whole thing played together, since that's the way it would keep the Epic length necessary for this poll, and that's actually the way I usually think about it.

Thanks for the recommendation bud. Yeah I got sick of them because they play on classic rock radio ALL THE TIME. But maybe I should check out this early Zappaish stuff. That seems like it might be good, and a way to finally start getting into this band.

Posted By: Dellinger
Date Posted: October 23 2019 at 21:09
^ Well, perhaps calling it Zappaish might be a bit of an exageration, and it may make you have a wrong expectation of what to find. But in the end I do love it too. There's even a video around of Zappa playing with them on "Interstellar Overdrive".

Posted By: YESESIS
Date Posted: October 24 2019 at 20:02
I found the video on youtube. They actually got Frank Zappa himself up on stage to play with them. That was cool, I might have to start getting into this band now.

Live Pink FLoyd is a thing to behold or in this case behear, this is amazing, I think, live at BBC:

This, on the other hand, is not: ;)

... Despite being a favourite "shred" of mine.

The side-long "Atom Heart Mother" is my favourite (Ron Geesin played a big part on it). I'd call it a suite rather than an epic.

Love all three in the poll, but going with "Echoes".
