A couple of good ones from 1980 to choose from.

That's a tough one. If forced at gunpoint I'd probably go for PW.

Great face-off, but I gotta go Yes on this one....

Yes, it can be a bit of a Drama riding those Permanent Waves in a Rush of adrenaline. Smile

Love both, but permanent waves is the clear winner

Drama's a great album but it's no better than #6 or 7 in the Yes discography.  Vote for Permanent Waves.

No vote for me. Permanent waves is my first or second favorite Rush album but Drama is also very strong. Plus I'm a bit of a Yes fanboy and have a hard time voting against them.Tongue

Drama is indeed excellent but easy vote for PW.

It used to be safe to ridicule Drama. Its reappraisal has literally been dramatic.

Easy.. Permanent Waves.

I'm (relatively, for what I think I've seen on this site) big on Rush.. (and in fact, the fact that this poll is in a tie at the time of this post sort of confirms it for me) and for me 'Permanent' is absolute (my) (Rush) 'canon' (I mean: a 70's album, equally good as the others from that period etc.)

Drama for me is interesting, have many good and notable things (hence my nick & avatar), but... 'Permanent' on this one. I'm definitely a 70's, guitar oriented rock guy.

Oh my...! just checked they're both from 1980!   Good one Argo2112      almost got me there.

Well this makes me draw two conclusions: 1) how evolutionized Drama is for its release date, and 2) that I now value PW even more for maintaining that 70's power and progressive rock sound that I love so much through to the 80's.

Another tough poll. Both are probably around about my 5th favourite albums by either band . Both represented a major re-invention of the bands approach and sound. Rush stuck but Yes didn't. I voted Rush because Jacobs Ladder just beats Machine Messiah in the battle of the mini epics.

Drama all the way.

Chris Squire's arguably most shining, up-front bass production performance EVER.

Permanent Waves by a long shot.
It's the best Rush album in my book.

Pretty tough choice, but I'll go with Rush.

PW was a breakthrough album and a change of direction. Drama was a 'controversial' album by a band in decline, but still damn good. It really was a tough choice.

Normally, I would vote for Yes over rush, but this time, the roles turn around. Rush takes my vote.

Permanent Waves for hint of exposed cover panties. Oh yeah, the music is pretty good too.

I like Drama though

It's funny that these albums seem to have some parallels (excuse the pun) . Geddy's bass on Freewill versus Chris's bass on Does it Really Happen? Both are monsters!

Even through Permanent Waves is my favourite Rush, it's still not nearly on the level of Drama.

The lead vocals are one important factor which's on the side of PW. But the sheer class and imagination showed in Drama still prevail, I think.

Outside of Natural Science and White Car, both are a little goofy for their respective groups. Thank goodness for the Howe/Squire/White combo to garner my vote for Drama.

Not cool. Pump the brakes.

Yes, polls are subjective. So is the statement, "Even a fair to middling Yes album beats anything Rush can muster".

I like both, but give the edge to Drama, as more satisfying and better able to stand up to the test of time and repeated listenings. You also listen to the blend of five people, rather than three.

I do like Drama, but not nearly enough as PW. Not a big fan of Trevor Horn's vocals, the music is very good......Jacob's Laddder and Natural Science are the icing on the record..

Permanent Waves. Although Rush were rather hit and miss in the 80s, this and Moving Pictures got the decade off to a flying start.

I didn't really get Drama at the time, and I don't think that it has aged well.

As much as I love Drama (which is in my top 5 Yes albums), I still have to go with Permanent Waves. Definitely my favorite Rush record, as it combined their cerebral 70s material and their more introspective 80s material perfectly

PW is probably a more consistent & cohesive collection of tracks, but I feel Drama has more power and character.   The big Y was a band fractured and wayward, but the three masters, as always, remained intact.

Yeah, I dunno.   Voted Drama 'cause it's behind.
