They've clearly already started hiring for 7 virgins and a mule.

Those involved seem reputable, I hope they don't f#@k it up.
Might we see CP in a cameo as a crotchety old timer, perhaps a carney at the macabre carnival, who still remembers a time before the perfect machine? Or maybe a carnival busker, burdened with post apocalyptic musical instruments surgically implanted to various parts of his body. Forcibly making (music?) with every body movement. Oh, and they are synthesized of course.

TARKUS was screaming out for a film adaptation. As for this, will probably be a decade in pre-production hell. Producers and executives changing hands. If it ends up ripping off the "ideas" of the Will We Rock You Musical it'll be a waste of time.
Would rather this film than another sodding biopic however!
But really, Karn Evil 9. Look at the lyrics. How could you make that into a good film? At least with TARKUS there's the angle of how was it constructed? What was behind the forces attacking them and why did they need to build that Aardvark, armadillo tank combination?
As opposed to "We built a machine called Karn Evil 9 and it's turned against us somehow!".

Although if they incorporate Emerson's compositions into or completely use Emerson's compositions, then at least the soundtrack will be a must buy!

Now Karn Evil 9 that incorporates TARKUS? Yeah, that would be more like it. But not getting hopes or giving it attention until something actually gets done with it.

Hi,

And H. R. Giger will be conveniently forgotten so they don't have to pay for an "artist" ... just like they did that one movie to Roger Dean!

I'm kinda glad I will never have the chance to see this ... but who knows ... get a decent director instead of a Hollywood stooge, and we might end up with something!

If this is real then I hope it doesn't turn out like the movie based on an IQ album. Wink

Great music - but never the strongest concept - I'll be very intrigued to see how they turn it into a cohesive film!

They'll never get 3 actors who look like porn stars as found on the cover photo.

I know what you mean, but we don't have too many projects that might turn younger folks onto old prog rock, so this movie does have some positive aspects. Albeit, if it's good and does really come off.

It's a sad day when we need a movie to turn younger folks on to older prog. But I get it. These days most younger folks(even ones already into prog)barely seem to know who Yes is or even Genesis. I'm on a few prog discussion forums on reddit and all I see is postings of these newer prog metal and fringe prog and indie-ish prog bands(Thank You Scientist etc), rarely anything past the last five years and rarely any older prog except Pink Floyd and Rush. Occasionally Camel but that's only because Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth has cited them as an influence. Tongue

I hope they do a good job, to honer Keith and Greg properly.

There are so many good sci-fi novels and short stories that are far better than the lyrics of that song to base a film on.....talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I hear you. Still waiting for Rendezvous with Rama.

I wasn't too thrilled about another go at Dune, but since Denis Villeneuve's directing, I will watch it. His films are gorgeous.

Yeah, I bet Blue Oyster Cult has some lyrics that would make a good sci fi movie too(and they had an actual Sci Fi writer contributing to their lyrics).

Loved both of those books.

Sci-Fi is very fluid so it won't stick too closely to the music I suspect and will just end up being totally unrecognisable to anything connected with it . The concept was already loosely adapted for the very underrated sci-f film Logan's Run ( that must be due for a reboot?) and of course the part organic , part machine Tarkus was developed in Alien.

Honestly, I'm surprised this wasn't already made into at least one short film around the time of said album's release.

I need to see this before I can make any sort of judgement. It could be a very artistic thing a la Ken Russell...just as it could be a flick with black humour and lots of giggles.
Could also be horrendously bad.

But sure..seems like the right timing. ELP is on the brink of breaking back into popular culture

YES ! I've been waiting for this since I was about 13 years old. If that's any indication on the time line, most of us here will probably be star dust by the time KE9 hits the screens. Cry

Actually you can go back 6 years earlier for a much better example "Colossus The Forbin Project".

Don't get too hung up on that, remember, they built a very successful TV series on a two word premise...MTV Cops = Miami Vice. As a bit of a writer I can easily see a story based on the obvious elements of the lyrics without it being a music video presentation.

For example...

Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air
About an age of power where no one had an hour to spare,
Where the seeds have withered, silent children shivered, in the cold
Now their faces captured in the lenses of the jackals for gold

These lyrics alone provide the foundation for the opening 15-20 minutes.

Then...

There must be someone who can set them free:
To take their sorrow from this odyssey
To help the helpless and the refugee
To protect what's left of humanity.

The introduction of the protagonist.

Next...

Step inside! Hello! We've a most amazing show
You'll enjoy it all we know
Step inside! Step inside!
We've got thrills and shocks, supersonic fighting cocks.
Leave your hammers at the box
Come inside! Come inside!

A reoccurring theme about the metaphor of life being a sideshow of sorts (think reality TV)

And finally...

No computer stands in my way
Only blood can cancel my pain
Guardians of a nuclear dawn
Let the maps of war be drawn.

Act three, where-in the remnants of society band together behind the protagonist and take down the evil quantum overlord.

See, not too much of a stretch.

Put me down for another vote for Rendezvous with Rama.  I would even go see the sequels!

What about a TV series based on the Thomas Covenant series?

I understated that there are much better sci stories out there but unfortunately they are not prog related.

Understated?  You get "0" for proofreading LOL

How about adding a prog soundtrack to them?  We can do it!  Make them relevant to each other because the marriage of sci-fi/fantasy and progressive rock is long overdue.

They need to hurry up and do it before The Asylum does because they've run out of four-headed sharks that fly! LOL

IMO, Passengers (starring Chris Pratt, Jennifer Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne) bit off some of Rama's mojo with its barebones cast and hulking interstellar craft. But its extravagant VFX show that all the tools are in place to adapt Rama, provided they don't muck it up with the requisite silliness that seems to infect modern tentpole films.

The one I have wished would be done is Tarkus... I guess as an animated thing. However, this one comes sort of late, it should have been done while Emerson, Lake, and Giger were still alive, so they could have contributed to the project. I just wish they would use Giger as an influence for the visual part, and use some of the music itself, but I guess not exactly... perhaps in some parts they could use the music as it appears on the album, but for other parts perhaps adapt the music so that it works better... perhaps orchestrate it, or whatever.

Any Update on this? I've just discovered they were doing this, I can't seen to find anything. I'm hoping it's still in the works. It sounds very promising!
