People seem to keep saying time and a word isn't so good because of the strings. Were the strings that much better on Magnification. Please say in the comments section which album you prefer but also on which album you think the strings work better on or maybe you like the strings more on Magnification but still think time and a word is better.

The strings work better on Magnification, and I think it is a good late-period Yes album, but Time and a Word is a better album overall with several classic tracks on it that have stood the test of time reasonably well (although overshadowed by the albums to follow)

Yes, I like both of the albums in the poll equally, although The Ladder is on the top rung of Yes albums for me. Smile

Time and a Word.
Just couldn't ever get into Magnification, even though I know some really like it

It is a combination of things that make Magnification the better of the two: Better arrangements, better sound fidelity, and planning to use the string orchestra from the beginning. Most of Time and a Word works out okay, but there are places where the orchestration is either intrusive or sappy.

Actually when it comes down to it neither are Prog Rock. Magnification is better because they got the orchestra right by getting a competent film composer who can score an orchestra.

I really like Magnification, but any after Relayer album can´t compete Time and a Word.

Magnification very easily for me. Better songs and better orchestrations. I only wish Wakeman had been on board for this one too (though it's exactly the lack of a keyboard player that pushed them into doing the orchesta thing, as far as I remember).

Time and a Word by far, surprised to see Magnification (which I do like) getting so many votes.

Just for No Opportunity needed , No Experience necessary (btw great cover version by Morse, Portnoy and George on their recent covers album) but Time and A Word overall is an excellent album.  Magnification is nice enough but the last Yes album I really want to play is Talk.

Time And a Word. I don't like Yes post-Drama production.
