I think my favorite part, is that most of the video is just Jon playing guitar in front of a green screen.

Jon wants people to vote. Who does he want them to vote for?
"Wrote this song after the horrific school shootings.. at Sandy Hook... and more... just breaks your heart when nothing gets done," says Anderson. "Gun laws be Dammed... same with Priests screwing children in the name of WHAT!!!....then hiding it all away...!!!
"So now is the perfect time for the song to be heard and seen ..we are at a breaking point with a mad man in charge of this amazing country.....we must change our being to help the world heal...and yes I said f**kers!!!

Well, I didn't actually say that(someone else did)but it's true. John Lydon a few years ago after a performance urged the audience not to vote for a certain someone and now he is supporting that certain someone(hint this someone is often compared to a certain citrus fruit).

In the Louder article, Anderson says he wrote the song initially after Sandy Hook, which was in December of 2012. Not sure if he recorded it then too.
I am curious as to who played on it. Sounds like it could be Rabin on guitars at the end.

That's true but the video itself could have been made in 2016 or 2020. Also, the lyrics don't actually mention any politicians by name. Anyway, this must be the only Jon Anderson song to feature the f bomb.

Positively surprised by this song, not only because of the lyrics, but also because of the music. Would be nice indeed if it could become a Christmas hit, but that would be a bit late for the elections in the USA.
I suppose the video was made recently, but JA's anger regarding politicians should not be a surprise (think of The Gates of Delerium e.g.), although he is a bit (a lot) more explicit here. Haven't we all been deceived, since decades, by politicians that ought to represent us, but prefer to represent stake holders and their own interests?
Anyway, nice song, but I don't think it will change the world.

Please stop attributing that Johnny Rotten quote to me. I did not say that. For one thing if I do refer to him it's in the present tense and I would say John Lydon and not "Rotten." So from now if you quote that please change it so it doesn't say aflowerkingcrimson in it because that was not my quote.
Here is the original quote you are referring to and it's from Easy Money not myself(note who's name it says):

Holy heck, I'm dazed, lol. I can't think of any precedent for a classic rock musician making a song (or a video) like this, completely outrageous! Lol, I love the wild crazy energy, not sure the music is all that great although the instrumental bridge was pretty neat. Neither am I. This is quite surprising. As if he is leaning to bring some structure in his language at an increasingly venerable age. Yet he sounds younger than he looks, and the song is quite a pretty ditty . A protest singer who comes to bloom when many of his generation are retired or have passed away. Respect!

My guess is that most of them grew up with Yes in the early 70's with Fragile and other older Yes albums and like them because they were cool at the time. Their other favorite bands are probably Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, ELP, Boston, Foghat, Bad Company, Styx, Ted Nugent(especially him) etc. In other words mostly stuff from that era. Some(but maybe not all)are juvenile and get a kick out of putting people down to see if they can get a reaction out of them. I would guess the lyrics of Yes or the message of Jon Anderson goes over their heads and is largely irrelevant to them. Also, most are probably not really big prog fans but are more like classic rock fans. Am I generalizing and stereotyping the conservative Yes fans? Absolutely but I'm probably not too far off the mark.
Yeah, instead of don't get kill the whale for them it's "nuke the whale" and "on the silent wings of a free enterprise." Oh yeah, also "the revealing science of don't take my guns away."

Hi,
Don't know about that ... but the problem is not Jon's credibility as is the ability for people to find out what he is saying and how, which is different, and has some unusual references. RW is not credible ... he reminds me of the "newspaper plays" in the 1930's ... when the New Deal made sure actors, directors and some theaters could work, but there were no plays, so they created plays out of reading newspapers daily!
Jon's statement, is something he should have done 10 years ago, as a way for people to let him be who he is ... but he was too busy with the fame concert series around him! That's my only complaint since some of those were not very good, and I thought it brought down the quality of his work.

When I heard this song, I thought it was a fan made thing / Joke to make it look like an actual Jon song. Yet I thought it was actually not bad. Later on seeing all the controversy it caused on Yes's FB page it became clear he had actually done it. Nice to see there's mostly support for Jon in here, while there are people even threatening (or actually leaving, I don't know) the FB page given the political discussions it created.

^Is this a cyclical thread?
EDIT: Is it just me, or is there something wrong with this thread? It's gone upside down - the first comment is on he 4th page, and the last one on the 1st. Is this just for me?

Does anyone have a clue who plays on the song besides Jon? The lead guitar reminds me of Trevor Rabin a bit.

I'm not sure. I don't think it's Trevor but I don't really know. It could be almost anyone.

Maybe it's just me ... I think it's totally bizarre.

I give the guy huge credit for doing something genuinely surprising and relevant at this late stage in his career, and for having his heart in the right place.
I'll probably only ever listen to it the once, though.

Poor fella still sounds great but he's really forcing it here.....pity 'cause that voice is magical and with the right setting could still produce somthing special. Go call Howe and the Jean-Luc Ponty band.

Listened to this again. Liking it more and more. The rhythm is kind of, I don't know, maybe a little disjointed. I think it works and Jon's voice is pure bliss. I also like the impactful statement hes making with this. It is refreshing to hear him a little pissed off. Lord knows humanity needs a kick in the ass, now more than ever.

I must have listened to it at least half a dozen times now. Hopefully he will release it on an album at some point.

^Same. I found the song catchy. And worth hearing Jon sing "soulless motherf*ckers".

Hi,
We still on this?
Jon has always had a side with opinions and he was always polite and sometimes kinda quiet about them. But he was not sure he felt right about saying anything ... and if finally clicked ... and that's good!
If anything, it is nice to hear, and feel, that finally Jon is going out with a "bang" in that the beauty and greatness he started with gave way to the real feelings that he has had for some time, but did not express, and as such, that makes him a very honest and expressive artist ... and my only hope is that he does not quiet down, and continue ... we need more people exploding ... and we're not gonna get Ian much more since his voice is gone. But his opinions were always slightly hidden ... which to my ears was chicken poop ... and one of the reasons why I got out of JT after the big trio of albums! (TAAB/PP/MIAG).

This one is good too. This is from Alex Skolnick(from the metal band Testament).
