This is gonna be the easiest poll ever or I'll be surprised and see something totally different.
Maybe some will say the poll is unbalanced.
Deep Purple's Stormbringer is one of my favorite albums, I think its really solid album.

So for the fun of it, vote and discuss.Tongue

Love the SBS and Burn. The latter peaks higher, but SBS is so fricking consistent. Tie.
After that, Sabotage is my no. 3, so I take Black Sabbath.

Sabbath, even if I tossed Technical Ecstasy in the trash and just went with SBS and Sabotage.

Purple for me - Burn is my favourite album of theirs, Come Taste The Band was a bit sl*g.ed off at that time but I think it's a good album. Stormbringer I'm not familiar with.

Having voted for Purple in the previous poll I'll go for Sabbath this time. Two strong albums (SBS and Sabotage) versus one (Burn) for Deep Purple. Having said that Burn is my favourite of all the six albums listed.

Sabbath, I never enjoyed the gillen less Purps anywhere near as much. Now if it had been Sabs v Rainbow it would have been a different story.

Purple: One great album, Burn. One good album, Strombringer. One decent album, Come Taste the Band.
Sabbath: One great album, SBS. Another great album, arguably their best, Sabotage. One stinker, TE. The vote goes to the Sabs.

Tough one! But Deep Purple. I LOOOOOVVE Burn, really really like Come Taste the Band, super Underrated, not crazy about Stormbringer outside of a few tracks.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a masterpiece, like Burn. Sabotage is fantastic as well, not big on technical ecstasy. Purple barely edges it out for me.

This is sound advice and I acted accordingly.

SBS is just great. Sabotage has Sabbath's best track Symptom of the Universe on it, but, to be honest, I don't rate the rest of it very high. Nor Technical Ecstacy.

Burn is also great but don't know the other two Purple albums.

Burn & Stormbringer are good albums, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & Sabotage are outstanding, Sabbath trample all over Purple in this one.

I've always preferred Black Sabbath to Deep Purple. The particular albums don't matter in my decision.

Agreed. Gillen less Purple had one or maybe two good tracks per album for me.

Besides that, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" stands head and shoulders above the rest of the albums here.

Gillen? Who's that? His name is Ian Gillan.

There was a vocalist named Ray Gillen who was briefly in Black Sabbath, he participated in writing with Iommi but never made it to an official release being replaced by Tony Martin.

don't think Stormbringer is any good (IMHO), but the trio albums presented is unfair
Sab should've been represented by Sabotage Ecstasy and Never Say Die as to make the last three 70's albums for both bands

didn't vote and commented. TongueWink

The albums in the poll were released around the same time (1973-1976).

You'd have to be a devoted fan to know that Ray Gillen once sang with Black Sabbath, just as you'd have to be  a devoted fan to know that Ron Keel, Dave Walker and David Donato were also briefly singers with Black Sabbath. Then again, you could always look it up on Google, as I just did. Smile

Exactly.  "The Eternal Idol" 2010 deluxe edition disc 2 consists of the earlier recording sessions, with Ray Gillen performing vocals.  After Ray Gillen quit Sabbath, Tony Martin recorded "The Eternal Idol" lyrics for his first spin as Sabbath's vocalist.

I'm a big fan of Tony Martin's five album Sabbath run.  Tony Iommi claims that a Tony Martin era Boxset is in the works. It could be be a fantastic box, if Iommi includes several concert DVD's. Don't be stingy, Tony.  Forbidden is oft considered Sabbath's worse album. However; Iommi recently remixed Forbidden. It's in the can.

Canadian music Journalist- Martin Popoff's favorite all-time rock album is Sabotage. Martin's second favorite Sabbath album is Technical Ecstasy. Technical Ecstasy has grown on me over the years.  I've always loved the cover.
