Allegedly an uneven affair, the truth is that every Yes fan has his personal favorite among the four suites in this classic album, so... go for it!
Just one vote per chin, you are also invited to post your assesment.

Pretty sure TRSoG will win this and that is brilliant, but I prefer The Remembering.

The Revealing Science of God, but to be fair, all four pieces are really good.

^Agree. Voted the same, although their live rendition of Ritual during the 2001 tour was brilliant.

All good, but Revealing Science of god - the opening slow chant increasing in intesity is powerful stuff indeed

The Revealing Science Of God runs with an edge on the experimental side of it, but everyone is entitled to have a taste, so I prefer the acoustic stuff in The Remembering.

I'll have to think about it. I think ritual might be my favorite but I prefer the live version on yesshows. Most seem to say TRSOG but I'm not so sure.

TRSOG is my fave off this album.

I just realized that the reason to prefer a particular piece might be not the actual version on the album, but rather some live performance. That would increase the chances for Ritual (being the most performed), I think

I am going along with the majority here, and voting for The Revealing Science of God. That said, this is one of those albums that comes to me as a whole, and to cut one out from the others does an injustice. It must be listened to in its entirety to understand and appreciate it.

I've long been partial to "The Remembering," which has some very creative musicianship!  Squire uses a plectrum with a fretless Guild electric bass guitar to emulate the sound of an orchestra timpani....very impressive!!

"Relayer....all the dying cried before you!"  Amazing lyrics!

^ Squire did say his best playing was on that album..

so going with The Ancient..  as I've always said.. the key to 'getting' the album is getting that one and loving it as the real musical highpoint of the album.  Amazing sh*t man...

You're not alone. I pretty much agree with everything you say here! This is an album i used to like Revealing the best first but then after time everything clicked. It's just so friggin proggy that it literally takes a crapload of spins to digest it and let it seep into your consciousness.

I knew there were a few of us on here LOL! I remember coming on here just to browse back in like, 2008-2009, and it appeared the album was praised more commonly amongst members.

Then it was derided!

Then it was worshipped!

Then derided again! Lol.

It's perfect prog to my ears, and ever since the first day I've heard it, the extended "padded sections" everyone complains about - even Wakeman - is just "more Yes music" for my ears to feast on, lol. What a fan boi! LOL

I've always loved obsessing over every nook and cranny of records, and I completely understand why most, even proggers, don't care for that. Not a coincidence I like denser, more tech and busy prog like Gentle Giant and VDGG, which is also very divisive amongst proggers!

To each their own, enjoy, it's all there for us, "In a thousand happy facets!" as Captain Beefheart himself would say! Tongue

I regard The Revealing Science Of God (Dance Of The Dawn) as some of Yes strongest ever material if this was a single album not a double carefully edited it would be up there with close to the edge. there's moments of brilliance with this album as a whole I'd give it a solid four and a half stars. Tongue

Fair enough. I just think that, by naming a fave, one is not dismissing the rest of this extraordinary album, anyway. Even classical symphonies peak at some point, and they have best loved passages...

The Remembering. Awesome climactic piece with the hit single - Relayer - that never was.

I do think this album should have had it's sections indexed so we can see it's not 4 songs despite being over 4 sides. Actually The Revealing Science is the only one with it's repeating themes that bears any resemblance to a song. Quite brilliant. The Ancient is two pieces and The The Remembering is 2, possibly 3. Ritual might be four pieces.

"Expect the unexpected" might be the right moto for a poll like this. I'll just say that, even when the album grabbed me with its four sides (the parts Rick was forced to do included), the Revealing Science striked me first as the most different sounding part of it, and to be different is very attractive to prog people...

Which is why we call it an opinion, just like yours, which I also happen to disagree with.

The Revealing Science of God is light years ahead of the rest of the record IMHO and they could have stopped at that one track and it would arguably be tied with CTTE.

How is Dark Side of The Moon not overrated, by comparison (assuming you're one of the people here that worship that album)? I will never not harp on that when people attempt to argue empirical subjectivity (contradiction) lol.

You like what you like, we like what we like. Enjoy it! Wink

Light years? LOL. No way. It's repetitious and doesn't really go anywhere. It's good but it's not as adventurous as the other tracks on the album. Opinion? No, it's a fact. LOL

You're opinion is wrong! Wink

DSOTM is very over rated. Tongue

Ok, I'm not saying people can't have their opinion but just that I personally don't get it. I do think ritual kind of starts to lose the plot at some point but the first half is fantastic. At some point you hear what sounds like a little kid banging two pots and two pans and then it gets slow and sappy but much of it is great. TRSOG starts out great and I like the chorus and the one synth solo but other than that it just seems to go around in circles or something. The most underrated track on Tales imo is probably the Ancient though. I just really like the exotic sound of it. It's probably the most otherwordly thing they did up to that point(surpassed on the next album relayer though).
